  • Those Lord of the Rings fans out there may recognise this location – imagine Gandalf riding towards Minas Tirith. Admitedly this is a much nicer day than in the movie, and the digital Minas Tirith is missing, and I have concentrated more on the creek than I should have, But I DID say you have to imagine! lol

  • This image was selected for inclusion in a recent charity exhibition and auction held here in Melbourne. The charity raises funds to build schools in Bangladesh. • “They found that they were looking at a most extraordinary face. It belonged to a large Man-like, almost Troll-like, figure, at least fourteen foot high, very sturdy, with a tall head and hardly any neck. Whether it was clad in stuff like green and grey bark, or whether that was its hide, was difficult to say.” JRRTolkien, The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings Inspired by the same.

  • The Beautifull Malvern Hills in the heart of England. Seen here looking North from British camp, an ancient Iron Age Hill fort , and reputed to be the inspiration for Tolkien’s Weather Top where Frodo is stabbed by the Nasgul’s blade. Taken late in May, just before sunset. The Victorian town of Great Malvern is nestled into the highest of the hills, and is famous for its natural mineral water springs and wells which run freely from the hillside. The Queen even drinks Malvern Water…...could Malvern have been Tolkien’s Rivendell?

  • “O! Wanderers in the shadowed land / despair not! For though dark they stand, / all woods there be must end at last, / and see the open sun go past; / the setting sun, the rising sun, / the day’s end, or the day begun, / For east or west all woods must fail … Fail – even as he said the word his voice faded into silence.” The Fellowship of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings published by Unwin and Allen.

  • Fear not, for he watches the forests all, / Guardian of trees, the short and the tall, / The leafless, the evergreen, the pine and the gum, / Arise now, the spirit of the trees is come. A tree ‘growth’. At first I thought it was a carving and was not going to photograph it. But then I found it was the way the tree had grown, and it only appeared this way at a particular distance and angle. Then, I knew, I had captured a nature spirit if ever there was one :)

  • “For I am Saruman, the wise, Saruman Ring-maker, Saruman of Many Colours!” The Fellowship of the Ring – The Lord of the Rings JRRTolkien

  • A little less discreet version, by request. Smaller version below. Hardcore sushi fan Gollum. “Raw fish” translates into “alive fish”, and he forgot the part about rice. Oh well… at least he’s trying. My first Tee design, hope you like it! Drawn from scratch in Photoshop CS3. Smaller version / / Try one of the darker colours as well, they looks totally different from the light ones. Also, if you want it to be smaller/bigger etc. give me a shout and I’ll see what I can do. Gollum from the Lord of The Rings, for those who don’t know.

  • This is one of my favourite books of all time; The Lord of the Rings. This is the 50th anniversary special edition and I love it so!

  • Looking up from the abyssssss… I decided this really needed some verse to go with it… From The Deep I live in the darkness. / My eyes have grown large, / But where is my heart? / O, where is my heart? I can see very well / Down here in these depths. / But where is my soul? / O, where did it go? Time has no meaning here. / My stare has consumed / All but the darkness, / The deepest abyss. Both Captor and Captive, / Eternally lost, / I dwell in the deep, / To haunt the dreams of men. So, I wrote the above poem to accompany it. The piece was originally inspired by Gollum from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. However, there’s more to the piece than just my interpretation of a classic literary character. It is all that, for sure, but not limited to it: the more I look at it, the more I see me. It is me, obviously…but, I think everyone, in one way or another, has a bit of Smeagol in them that either we deal with or, like in his case, it eventually completely takes over and fully consumes us.
