  • David Iori Photography Website / Email Me / . / © Copyright 2008 David Iori Photography, All Rights Reserved / . / Rainbow Lorikeets live off nectar mostly and water they find in leaves. They will fly up to 50 kilometers, (31 miles), to find food and even develop a flight pattern that they follow everyday. During the winter seasons when the food is scarce they will eat fruits that are laid out for them by people. At the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary in Queensland, the visitors are asked to hold food out for the birds when they arrive in groups of hundreds at around 4pm. They will perch on people’s arms and heads to be fed. Rainbow Lorikeets make very good pets because they can be tamed so easily and have a fun natured temperament.

  • These Rainbow Lorikeets were photographed at Lake Conjola, south of Nowra, NSW, Australia. I was enjoying an apple when I was ‘attacked’. I think this image really sums up there personality!

  • Friendly bird that was happy to be photographed!

  • I was looking through Sally Omar’s ‘I love birds’ group, all the wonderful images and thought it was time to pay respects to a beautiful bird that lived with us for a short while…i have written a journal as the story was too long for here. Lorraine is on the left, the girls are less colourful in the birdy world!!! this shot is a composite, the background is mylor in the adelaide hills, where we live. the image of the birds was taken from inside their flight cage when we lived in woodville west ( a suburb near the city of Adelaide). it was my favorite image of the birds but the location was very distracting. Amazing what you can do in cs3. ..christopher xx

Frankston South, Australia. 30/01/2009 / The Rainbow Lorikeet mostly forages on the flowers of shrubs or trees to harvest nectar and pollen, but also eats fruits, seeds and some insects. / The eggs of the Rainbow Lorikeet are laid on chewed, decayed wood, usually in a hollow limb of a eucalypt tree. • This is definately one of the most beautiful places of the world, at the most beautiful time of the day :) Noosa River, Noosaville, Queensland. 1000’s of Rainbow Lorikeets fly above, in their afternoon social time, hanging out in the tall Gum Trees. If you stand within 50 metres of the tree, you can’t hear yourself think for the noise, it’s so wonderful an experience! This colour happens most nights, but this cloud formation does not happen often at all, in my opinion, the perfect sky :) I hope you enjoy this shot, as much as I enjoyed shooting this one. Available Large, and best viewed large. Actual print size is 1600mm x 1000mm. Canon 50D, 10mm, no filters needed, as this was the true colour of the evening.

  • Scaly-breasted Lorikeet This lorikeet is common in most timbered areas of Eastern Australia from Bamaga, the tip of North Queensland, south to Illawarra district on the New South Wales south coast; also on some offshore islands. They are generally confined to coastal plains and adjacent tablelands; occasionally found along watercourses west of the Great Dividing Range. They are abundant and mostly sedentary in north; less numerous and nomadic in the south. They favour open, lightly-timbered areas and melaleuca thickets. / Information Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaly-breasted_Lorikeet Photographic details: / Canon EOS 40D / 300mm, 1/30sec, F13, ISO800.
