  • In the 1800’s the Victorian government thought ahead, planned, and built infrastructure. Basically we are still using the rail system they developed then. Some years back it was decided that we needed to provide faster service on rail links to major towns than you could achieve by cars, and it was decided to implement a 160 kmh service to Ballarat and Bendigo. The double line system laid down in the 1800’s could not handle high speed trains so it was decided to lay new track. Not double lines, but single track with a few passing loops. Trains are now able to wait while the train in the other directin crosses it. This means that now both directions can loose timing and neither direction runs to timetable unless these waiting periods in the middle of nowhere are built into the timetable. / This is one train waiting in the Parwan loop near Melton for the train in the other direction to clear the track. Taken with Pentax K20 camera and 18-55mm Pentax lens at 30 mm 1/2000 f 4.5 ISO 400 +1 EV
