A few months ago I heard this song called A HORSE WITH NO NAME. I recalled it from my high school days. I just fell in love with the song again (lyrics below). And…last weekend while in the State of Virginia—I saw this horse that just sort of posed for me. It was my very own ‘horse with no name’; however, I think I’ll call it SUGAR. This is the spring counterpart to my other Barred owl called Winter’s watchman Taken in the same general area in April 2005. You can tell he was just in the swampy water below, either bathing or chasing after a snake to eat, by the wetness present on his feathers.

WILD AND FREE / / Two cheetah cub brothers sitting on a termite mound. Taken early one morning about half an hour after sunrise. (Masai Mara – Kenya) / / The world’s fastest land animal, the cheetah, is a unique and the most specialized member of the cat family and can reach speeds of 70 mph. Unlike other cats, the cheetah has a leaner body, longer legs, and has been referred to as the greyhound of the cats. It is not an aggressive animal, using flight versus fight. With its weak jaws and small teeth, the price it paid for speed, it cannot fight larger predators to protect its kill or young. The cheetah was once a common animal found on five continents, but is slowly losing its race for survival and is now classed as an Endangered Species! A young baboon and its mother. Taken in the Masai Mara, Kenya, this young baboon was quite shy at first. After a while he lept up on to his mothers back and rode away, gazing back at me. The light at the time was very harsh, but this treatment in photoshop seems to have given the shot more depth. Two Ring-Necked Parakeets (psittacula krameri) seem to have sussed out that they’re my centre of attention. These guys live at Africa Alive in Suffolk, and despite being native to Africa/Asia, feral versions can be found living in the London/Surrey/Berkshire area of England (where I’ve seen them), and other European Cities.
