  • How do you describe the feeling of emptiness, the deep carved out longing for something you cannot reach? Like some gaping wound or a cave of ancient sadness, you feel that nothing can reach or fill that space within you. What is missing from your life? But somewhere a heart still beats and sings of love… / Feelings pulsate and flood your being…. Somewhere the mind is alive and working…. / Thoughts clammer and clatter inside your head. Both will carry on in their way, regardless of the other…and tear you apart, unless you find the keys to that vast space in between….. The two need to come together in balance. / Somewhere in that hollow space, a bridge exists to link the logic and rationale of the head with the freedom and creativity of the heart….. / a perfect marriage of wisdom, words, and knowledge, to emotion, sentience and passion…. Stop and allow that hollow to embrace you. It is a part of you, and you are at home. Close your eyes, breathe, and in the darkness you will see. The keys are there….the hollows are not as threatening as you once thought….they are merely a sign for you to pause and be in your own space, right here and now, so that balance can be restored. / Perhaps it is only your presence from your own existence that was missing all along. /

  • It would be such a pity to leave without a comment. Like it? Say so. Don’t like it? Say so too! With a bang, if that fits your style. I’d rather leave a negative impression (on someone) than nothing at all. DullnBoring is not my middle name. Neither my last (I knew you’d probably say that!). As for the first name, it’s on the front page. So, please, leave a note and make my day a beautiful one! Thank you from the heart my friend. / / . / Please view also my other work.. / / Thank you for visiting.

  • “Logos (not to be confused with corporate logo’s) is an important term in philosophy, analytical psychology, rhetoric and religion. It derives from the Greek verb legō: to count, tell, say, or speak.” The idea of the Logos also has strong Christian resonances.. Christ said “I am the word” and is described as “the word made flesh” The idea of making simple pictures entirely with words and letters appeals to me.. I also like the idea of mixing the simple and the complex. The “words” if you were able to read them.. have many individual meanings.. and every word conjures up a thought. I have deliberately obscured the individual meanings of the words to stop them detracting from the overall effect, because this is an image using words, not an image with words.. a simple and complex picture.. but also with a vast number of indecipherable meanings.

He is best known for his theory of relativity and specifically mass–energy equivalence, expressed by the equation E = mc2. Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics “for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect.” Einstein published over 300 scientific works and over 150 non-scientific works In 1999 Time magazine named him the “Person of the Century”, and according to Einstein biographer Don Howard, “to the scientifically literate and the public at large, Einstein is synonymous with genius. • “Mathew Reed’s series of works reflects on the long history of man and his deep spiritual bond with a companion animal. He touches on various religions and cultures as he expresses a spiritual connection with the protective otherworldly silhouette of a wolf. His centre piece work, Spiritual Quest, was heavily influenced by the traditions of native tribes in North America who would embark on vision quests to discover their place in their tribe. On these quests, the child would have a dream where their spirit guardian would come to them in the form of an animal. Mathew touches on this tradition while adding his own flavour, looking inside himself, walking one way with his guardian while considering the branching path leading in another direction.” Apart of Animal Logic, a Newcastle exhibition. 10% of the sale of any of the original works gets donated to Blackbutt Nature Reserve to assist in their eucalyptus plantations to create a better habitat for their Koalas. • Born From The Cell; step by step
    by Mui-Ling Teh

Some of you may have come across this journal...

Some of you may have come across this journal announcing a challenge in which we present the process behind our work. So I decided to present the process of how I did Born From the Cell. / / / / The Secret is… / / / / / / / I cast myself a really big hand then place a piece of origami on it! / / / / I’m kidding :P / / / Here are the instructions for the typical paper crane: / / / / To do a small one I first need to cut a perfect tiny square. There may be occasions that the paper will not have a straght edge, so I apply a bit of math and creativity to get the right angles, proportion and size. Here I define the edges of the square through a series of folds. / / / I first create a straight edge by a single fold. / / / To get the perpendicular corner of a perfect square I make another fold by overlapping one side of the first fold with the other and making sure they line up. / / / / / / / Along one edge, I mark with a needle how far in parrallel with the other edge I want my next fold to be (in this case 3mm), and fold along the edge again. / / / / / / Now I want to make sure those parrallel edges will also be 3mm like the first. I can use a ruler, but suppose none is available, and the first edge was done without measuring, here is a way to be precise: / / / / I make a perfectly diagonal fold by overlapping folded edges on both sides. One end of the folded diagonal will go through the intersection of a pair of perpendicular folds while the other bisects the other fold to define the third corner of the square. / / / / The diagonal fold is not only a measuring device, but a head start with the crane folding prior to cutting the paper. So essentially I’ve already done step one in the instructions above. / / There are severals way I can proceed from here. I choose to make another diagonal going the other way by overlapping the folds; this time I have a third guide from the previously folded diagonal. / / / / / / Using the two parralles lines bisected by the diagonal ones, I can fold the last edge / / / / The parrellel lines should be perfectly overlapping themselves. Meanwhile the last fold should go through the intersection of the diagonal lines with the parrallel lines. This means everything was done precisely. / / / / From here I can cut the square, but there is still more I can do to make the folding process easier. / / / / I divide by 3×3mm square into four, which is easier to do now then when the paper is small. Now I cut the square / / / / / / It is now time to proceed with folded the crane (following the instructions above): Step one, fold in half into a triagle / / / / Step two, fold that triangle in half. This is more easily accomplished thanks to the second folded diagonal line prior to cutting. / / / / Step three and four, open the triangle and press flat, and repeat on the other side. This is where the folds for creating the divided squares come in handy. / / / / From here on things are trickier so I have to create a special set-up. Here a magnifying glass holds down a piece of tape from which I will proceed with the rest of the folding while looking through the glass. If the tape is too sticky that can ruin the paper, so earlier on I stuck it to my pants a few times to collect some lint and not be as adhesive. / / / / Now I’m taking pictures through the magnifying glass… / / / / Step five and six, fold edges to the centre and unfold. / / / / / / / / / / These folds just act as a guide for the next step. I omitted folding the top corner; it doesn’t do much here. / / Step 7, open an press flat. / / / / / / Repeat on the other side. / / / / Finally I fold the head and the tail. / / / / / / After I finish folding the crane, I position it on my hand and shoot it through a magnifying glass. Since this is so close that my hand will take up the background, it didn’t matter to me how messy my workspace is :P / / / /
