Orange Mushroom
Another one from Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC. I saw this one while walking along the seawall, and really liked the effect of seeing the dead tree logs, with the buzzing city behind. The effect done here is my illustrated-art look, done on a digital photo of the scene. If you like the effect, you can learn more about it here: Dave Seeram Illustration My Categories Illustrations Black&White
I found this little beauty inside a hollow log while walking near Erskine Falls, Lorne.

The John Oliver Cabin is a pioneer homestead located in Cade’s Cove within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee. Fall is the perfect time to capture the colors at the Smokys. The John Oliver Cabin is my favorite homestead in the park mainly because of the split rail fence leading the attention to the cabin.
WINTER NIGHT LOG CABIN from an original watercolor by SHARON SHARPE
The sun is beginning to filter through the trees, and the dogwoods are in full bloom here on this beautiful spring morn at the John Oliver Place………….Split-rail fences require much more timber than other types of fences, and so are not common in areas where wood is scarce or expensive. However, they are very simple in their construction, and can be assembled with few tools even on hard or rocky ground. They also can be built without using any nails or other hardware; such hardware was often scarce in frontier locations…….American chestnut was the tree of choice until wire fencing became cheaper and the chestnut blight eliminated this tree…….. The distance between either the zigs or the zags was 16½ feet or one rod. A landowner could then count the zigs or the zags along the side and end of his field and determine the number of square rods in a field which in turn told him how many acres the field contained. One hundred sixty square rods is one acre, so a field ten rods times sixteen rods was an acre.
These are large steel rings used for ‘snigging’ logs and trees…...they are rusty but I preferred the sepia tone…

A glorious day to be out looking for photo opps! I was looking for pictures to enter in a Conservancy contest – this one made the cut! : ) Taken on Horseshoe Trail near Lititz, PA.
Throughout the park there are reconstructed log cabins of the type thought to be used during the encampment, including a larger log cabin hospital. Earthworks, for the never needed defense of the encampment, are visible, including four redoubts, the ditch for the Inner Line Defenses, and a reconstructed abbatis. The original redoubts and several redans on Route 23, Outer Line Drive, and Inner Line Drive were covered with sod to preserve them, but they are currently in need of further restoration. The original forges, located on Valley Creek, were burned by the British three months prior to Washington’s occupation of the Park area. However, neither the Upper Forge site nor the Lower Forge site have been reconstructed. There are also several historical buildings that have not been made open to the public because of reasons such as their current state of disrepair. These include: Lord Stirling’s Quarters, Knox’s Quarters, and the Von Steuben Memorial. Other historical buildings include the P.C. Knox Estate and Potts’ Barn.
I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you all for your continued support, your comments, suggestions and feedback, I REALLY do appreciate the time you spent looking at my work. I will be out of the loop for the next few days, have a safe and happy holiday with your family and friends. Image is off of a small Xmas tree in front of my fireplace. Reflections are of same tree, in the open glass fireplace door. One reflection has been “added” to equal out the scene a bit. Ran this through the Redfield Fractalius plugin.

wanted to try to blend three photos well enough to try to make look like one actual photo – hope I achieved that. :) stock from / Holly6669666 (house and pine) / and / Night Fate Stock (bird)
This is a very old “spring house”, originally built in the mid 1800s. Spring houses were constructed directly over a fresh water spring, to keep the inside of the storage shed cool during the hot summer months. This was photographed in early autumn of 2006, in Morgan Valley, north central Pennsylvania. The picture was captured “handheld” on 35mm film using a Canon EOS 620 camera with a Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4L lens. The film negative was scanned to JPEG digital format.
