I was here today on the Logan River, in the canyon not far from home. I loved the ‘just now turning’ leaves and magnificent reflections in the clear water… Little Boat and the butterfly wanted to go with me so I shot some pics of them as well… heehee..

This is part of the Bear River National Wildlife Refuge that is about 6 miles from my home in Logan, Utah. The mountain range in the background is the Wellsville Mountains, Google them and see some interesting statistics about them! Of course I added the cute Lazuli Bunting, the extra layer of silhouette leaves and the moon, plus a little more cloud color..;-)

A small flock of Doves converges on this park pathway to look for some seeds. It is truly winter… HDR and I/R image, with added birds and sun elements. So this is a bit of a three way tie between the techniques I used! HDR shot was with infrared filtration (on the camera, two filters, one NDX2, and one 80 Infrared) leveled in Photoshop where the color shift became purple, processed the HDR in Photoshop, added birds and sun. This is not ‘false color’ this is the color ‘shift’ the program gave it when processed in Photoshop. Anyone who uses Photoshop will (should) understand the automatic color shift that occurs with infrared images. This color shift is further enhanced when the HDR portion of the processing is performed.

I spent the afternoon at Ft Logan National Cemetary in Denver for a funeral of a WW2 Veteran…I am a military brat. Both my mom and my dad were Marines and yet in my almost 31 years of life this is the first full metal service I have ever been too. It was the most amazing thing to be witness of. The guns, the flag, the doves…Was amazing!!! When it was all said and done what does any photographer do?? Take pictures…All the White headstones just amazed me. They go for miles and miles, thats all you see it is a reminder of how someone could be so unselfish to give there life for our Country! WOW! Such hero’s. I don’t do sappy stuff so this is new for me. A tribute and a memorial for each and every one who have served or are still serving (including my Mommy) / HDR Processed (Very mildly) and then enhanced in LR / Nikon D60 DSLR / Tamron 18-250mm / PLEASE VIEW LARGE TO REALLY GET THE FULL EFFECT /

Here at Upper Falls, the Grandma Gatewood Trail begins its six-mile course connecting three of the park’s areas: Old Man’s Cave to Cedar Falls to Ash Cave. The Old Man’s Cave area can be divided into five principal sections found along the valley of Old Man’s Creek. In order, they are Upper Falls, Upper Gorge, Middle Falls, Lower Falls and Lower Gorge. Along the length of the trail the magnificent gorge cuts through the entire 150-foot thickness of the Blackhand sandstone. Carved by the creek, the gorge serves as an avenue for visitors to peer into the earth’s subsurface. The full distance of the gorge is approximately one-half mile. About halfway through the Upper Gorge, a series of rapids and small waterfalls occur called Middle Falls. At the base of Middle Falls is the main recess known as Old Man’s Cave. The recess is located on a vertical cliff 75 feet above the stream and measures 200 feet long, 50 feet high and 75 feet deep. Once reaching Lower Falls the Gorge continues until reaching the valley of Queer Creek which leads on to Cedar Falls (approximately 2.5 miles one way, blue trail). The lesser known Broken Rock Falls occur in a small side hollow just below Lower Falls. This well-named waterfall cascades over a sandstone cliff and splashes from boulder to boulder. I decided to try to create art to go with a poem I wrote and add some of the words in the art. below is the poem used in the art. Hope you like it! this was a fun project but hard for me because i am working on a new style. the font was chosen for the over all look of the words, it isn’t met to read, but as art. This image was also inspired by a favorite artist of mine. Skin so Soft Skin so soft , hair flows freely. Hard ropy muscle that ripple from left to right when the body is in motion. Harsh, brash and crude, heart of gold allowing love as sweet as nectar to flow as freely as the blood spilled in battle. Not one external scar, not one imperfection, simply…flawless. But inside, scars run a muck like army ants pouncing on freshly fallen death ripping away at it with their sharp mandibles. Yet, the spirit never wavers to the hate that could be nourished. Self sacrifice, a choice made that sprang from the birth of a heart, not a burden of labored responsibility. Skin so soft, made to hold the one loved. Ropy muscle, brute strength, made to protect the weak.
