A big thanks to everyone who has jumped on board. It’s such a buzz for us to see the community evolving and so much great work on display. One of the most common requests we are getting is “what’s next?”, closely followed by “when?”. So to keep you all in the loop, here’s the inside word on what’s coming soon at RedBubble… 1) T-shirts – Design your own or buy one from the other talented folk on RedBubble. Either way, we’ll print on demand and send them out. Black and white to start with, using high quality American Apparel tees. 2) Activity Log – The overview tab in MyBubble will soon help you keep track of sales you’ve made, comments on your work, who likes your stuff, and what people on your watchlist are doing 3) Mounted Prints – Art and photos mounted on gatorboard – a top request from all you graphic artists out there. Super strong, dimensionally stable, and dent resistant. All at a nice affordable price. 4) Better Gallery – Browse more easily through the rapidly growing set of work. Check out the newest stuff, most popular, featured, maybe even wander randomly. 5) Email This Link – Making it easy for you to tell your friends about your favourite works, journal entries or RedBubble members. Beyond that, new stuff will be coming out every month or so. A few things near the top of our wishlist are postcards & greeting cards, canvas prints, and print-on-demand books. So, what do you most want to see on RedBubble? We can’t promise to build it all, but your feedback is a big part of how we decide what to build and when.

So there I was – joining Red Bubble for the first time. Quite daunting when you see how many top class artists there are here. How could I ever rub shoulders with such quality? Artists as a whole are a pretty needy bunch, I think. I don’t know about anyone else, but I reckon we’re quietly desperate for approval – constantly needing that positive vibe and feedback from others that “Yes, you are talented” “No your work doesn’t stink”. Deep down we’re just a bundle of neuroses with quite severe self-image issues. But hey, perhaps I’m just talking for myself here. I had an exhibition recently – my church is quite keen to support local artists, so it was a real thrill to be asked to pin up my pictures there. But all the while they were up I was asking people “Is it OK?” “Do you like this or that?” “Should I have done…?” and so on. I’m beginning to think that great art, or at least good art, is pure self-confidence and self-belief. When we create something, we draw on our innermost feelings, thoughts and desires – for me it’s a longing to capture the beauty of the world before mankind screws it up – and we do make ourselves tremendously vulnerable. But I always think that my best work is created when I know exactly what I want – inside there is a confidence that says “This is going to be a great shot” or when I know exactly what I want to communicate through my work. Whenever there is any doubt, that’s when I get a weak shot. Even if I want to communicate something negative like I hate my job or I feel like a slave I know exactly what I want to say and how to say it, and those shots work – at least, I think they do… Don’t they?

Ive read so many “Ive sold a card” blog entry with the line “thanks to whoever bought my …..” Couldnt the sale register in your activity log with the buyers name? The seller could then thank them personally instead of blogging and hoping they reply…. just a thought and I wouldnt think Im the first to think it either. See u around Paul

I have just got back from a 3 week holiday in Tasmania. We spent most of our time going to the National Parks which were amazing. However I was devasted by the control the Logging Company Gunns has in this state. We are witnessing the destruction of trees that are approx 200 years – 1200 years ( or more ). The Regnans Hardwood tree is the largest of it’s kind in the world. Let’s save this natural wonder and let the Federal Government know that we don’t want this to disappear. Save the Styx, Florentine and Tarkine Valley.

Tonight we burn the Yule Log / With candles dancing bright. / Tonight we beckon to us / The returning of the light. Our hearts are filled with warmth / As we await the longest night, / To welcome back our God / And laugh with sheer delight. Tonight we burn the Yule Log / And dash our cares away. / The candles burning down, / Bring light to our new day. Our God is freshly risen now, / We greet the dawning light, / Our hearts, our minds, our souls we give / To Your eternal might. After two days of straight-through driving, Monty and I stopped at Santa Rosa, New Mexico, just south and east of Santa Fe. We found a hotel right on the main drag through town, a little highway called Route 66. After a night’s rest we started out Monday morning on our drive westward on “The Mother Road”. Our first stop was just a couple of blocks down from our hotel at the Route 66 Auto Museum. What first attracted our attention was a bright yellow car up on a tall pole. We pulled in and immediately saw a vintage 1950 yellow taxi cab and an old pickup truck with a wooden truck bed. Bet you “youngsters” didn’t even realize that truck beds were once floored with wood planks! As we entered the museum, we stepped on the black and white checkered floors and immediately spotted Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean – no, Elvis is NOT alive. These were life-sized posters in the gift shop. We rested on a bench designed from the trunk and fenders of an aqua 1957 Chevy. Very cool! No need to wonder what happened to the rest of the car. We handed the $5 admission fee over the cashier’s desk, which just happened to be the front end of that same Chevy. Besides approximately 30 completely restored vintage automobiles, there was an impressive collection of vintage toys and signs and other memorabilia celebrating Route 66. Even if you are not a vintage car buff, you can’t help but be impressed by all the shiny chrome and fins. If you are ever near here, this is a stop you don’t want to miss! Further along the stretch of Route 66 in Santa Rosa there was evidence of long-closed businesses that suffered from the building of nearby Interstate 25. But more importantly there were many other businesses have stood the test of time and still remain open. It is obvious that Santa Rosa is working to preserving this section of historic Route 66. After leaving Santa Rosa, we picked up Route 66 again near Dillia and followed a 40-50 mile section to Santa Fe. For the most part, the two-lane road ran a close parallel to I-25 but sometimes curved away from the noise of the interstate. It was during these times, driving along in the rural areas of New Mexico that we experienced a taste of what the early Route 66 travelers must have enjoyed. I suppose it will be no surprise that I will soon be uploading some of the many, many photos taken on our road trip this week.

It was early morning. The fog had just lifted and the beauty of nature was all around. I followed the winding road to a far away place amongst the thick dark forrest of Lady Talbot Drive, to photograph the falls. Keppel Falls is large and beautiful this time of year as the snow melts from Lake Mountain nearby. On my journey I pass a large logging truck, stacked to the brim of gum. Minutes later, another, and then others again. On my way home i contemplate. If this goes on will Lady Talbot Drive be there next time. Will these photographs that I have taken capture something lost in time. Will it just be a memory…...............

The following was written during my stress leave. My friends of Weedy Field overwhelm the terrible feelings I get from its proximity to one of Dante’s inner rings. I was never within 50 yards of the place so nobody can say I was just wanting to be outside an extended period of time. It’s too bad the leave crashed and burned so badly but I go the cameras back in my hands even if my skills are rusty as well as in the learning stages. Latest mentor EBmonster is patient thru my depressive haze and deserves deep praise for her efforts. (It didn’t hurt to have a dog as kickass as Sunny around too!) It was one of those nasty Tuesdays when the gardening teams use those noxious gas-powered leaf blowers and completely disrupt life in the Field. It’s pretty clear that only a small portion of Cone Grove is maintained, and only lightly at that. Automatic sprinklers pop up daily watering the semi-ruly bushes and creeping ivy.up to a single wood plank embedded sideways in a semi-circle at the north-western extreme of Weedy Field. Anyway, the damned blowers make suck a rukus that most life either goes high in the trees or elsewhere until the fumes, dust, swirling needles, and unusual visitors go away. :-) Today’s regulars were about in unusual numbers for a leaf blowing day: not much. When I arrived, I saw Jill already making her way towards the furthest end of WF and none of the birds were evident. I wasn’t expecting to see any squirrels since their mass disappearance. Funny how so many healthy squirrels and their families suddenly disappear over a weekend but they did. I saw a swirled patch of ground that I mistook for a large bird making an odd landing, probably for prey. Then there was the dead Red-Tailed hawk found almost at the entrance door I use for work. Impossible to mistake a bird that large, even dead. Shock turned to suspicion and eventually to downright anger. I know of only one thing that could wipe out dozens of squirrels and a hawk at the same time: poisoning. I carefully searched Weedy Field for a new mushroom, evidence of a new predator, perhaps a highly opportune pack of wild dogs. A wolf or two isn’t unheard of but the bird wasn’t “taken”; it fell and died right where it was. It’s summer and I’m not a tracker by any means but there were no new tracks or trampled grass. Anger has fallen into resignation and mourning for Mama, Papa, and all their kinfolk and friends. The one thing that really stinks is that squirrels caused no harm to the people nor environment of Weedy Field and its surrounds. They ate pinecone seeds and anything else they scavanged from the ground. They didn’t poop or pee on anyone. They popped up at times on walkways and asked if you had a nut. If not, simply walking past them was seen as safe and non-threatening. No squirrel entered a building for food or anything else in the 15+ years we’ve been located here. (The rats and field mice did and one tiny snake got lost but was easily reaquainted with his world. And the squirrel population was kept in check by the hawk, the majestic wonder I never was able to photograph. Unfortunate for the hawk, nobody told him dinner was suddenly gonna be easier to catch – and lots of it. I pray it ate enough fast enough to die quickly and quietly. Finding it dead in a flower garden against the side of the building doesn’t make that seem likely, a victim of someone’s probably illegal act (the squirrel kill) and more than likely SERIOUS crime of the collateral killing of the hawk. I may inquire about it but I’ve so many body parts in the fire I wish I could trade them for irons. But once it quieted down, Jill returned to find her food bowl full of new food and she was contemplating how to try it with a large magpie on the other side of it. LOL! My first viewing of magpies in Weedy Field included three nice ones who were’t exactly competing with the jays for peanuts but neither ran the other off and there was no territorial squawlking. I was ready with the camera but the lighting was terrible so I’ll see what becomes of the shots. Both the magpie and Jill hit the road in opposite directions before I called to Jill; she came back to munch in peace. THe magpies returned too but opted for the extra peanuts in their new environment. :-) What brought joy to my heart was a single, young male squirrel came down from the trees after watching me for over an hour and took a couple peanuts I’d tossed just for him. He may have been outside the kill zone, new to Weedy Field, or perhaps too small to have come down from the nest without parental permission – or until all the parents and siblings were swept up and bagged as garbage. Unless a female arrives, he will be a loner but he won’t have any fear from the skies until another hawk’s attention is drawn here. Four more new visitors were mocking birds! They don’t mimick at all so they’re either birdbrains or being overly polite. The hummingbirds are more prevelant than the jays. I saw a tree with four of them and nobody fighting – highly unusual for WF. That’s a tree I need to get into and search for nests recently vacated. The dove population has doubled and they both appear to be nesting in the last tree within Weedy Field. Another place I’ll need to watch when the parents are home. Kinda makes me feel like a ‘stalker peeping tom’ but they ARE birds so I win. The crow population also appears to have doubled. I don’t know if their firstborn kicks out the other eggs or only one sibling usually survives but each family had parents and one very large “baby”. It’s easy to tell who’s the brat: it’s the one who does all the following and screams like a horror movie when mom or dad pick up something it wants to try. The “baby” is sometimes bigger than mom so she needs to perch higher to even drop something into the (literal) crumb snatcher’s mouth. Jill is sleeping about 12 feet behind me, in her usual place and the computer is running out of time on batteries so maybe more later. Weedy Field always has more to talk about. Coda: Just after the computer battery fizzled out, a 2nd squirrel was seen munching nuts I’d scattered in hope the magpies would consider calling WF home too. This one was an older female and one I recognized. Joy in my heart! Maybe more of them weren’t at home when the nastiness happened but the poison may still be out there as well. And now we know one pathetic human is willing to use it. But we also know this is one monster that missed taking out all of two populations in Weedy Field. Wildlife: 1; Dumbass: 1.

Maybe I’m just a voice crying in the wilderness…..but I have been close to forgetting all about RB for the last month or so since I cannot get easy access to the site. / Sometimes it simply doesn’t come up when clicked on…other times I get as far as logging in…then nothing. / Yet again, I might get as far as My Bubble and click on a comment someone has left for me…but then it just hangs!! / I’m pretty sure that it’s not my computer playing up as I certainly don’t have any of these problems with other sites I visit. / I’m just wondering if anyone else is having similar problems?? / I’ve enjoyed being a part of the RB community, and although I don’t visit the site nearly as often as I used to due to work commitments….I still like to see what’s going on. A slightly grumpy….Chris :-)
