My first ever post to redbubble!! A really lucky capture of Loch Voil near Balquidder (Rob Roy country) in Scotland. Taken on a single track road while hubby kept the car engine running with my brandnew digi pocket fuji A500 on its first day out … Untouched, this was my first ever rb post… and got me hooked! / ;))) 2 preceding images that day taken around the frosty misty dawn are dawn mist (1) / / / / / and dawn mist rising (2) / Please note there also 5 earlier images starting with ‘first light’ taken that day / if you like mist and want to see its progress above the loch A magic day! Dawn over Loch Voil, (outside Balquidder, Scotland) This is the 6th in a series of 8 images taken that morning (note 5 preceding starting with ‘first light’) taken with my brandnew and very first point and shoot digi camera (a fujifinepix a500) ‘dawn mist’ and is followed by ‘dawn mist rising’ taken just after this one with the frost still on the ground… Then some hours later this lucky shot from a layby ‘mirror calm scottish loch’ / / 5 earlier images are ; / ‘first light’: ‘early mist’: ‘blanket mist’: ‘mist tree’: and ‘tree light’:

Loch of the Lowes lies in the beautiful scottish borders between Moffat and Selkirk. It flows into nearby St Mary’s loch (with its thriving sailing club) past old Tibbieshiels inn, hostelry and overnight stop for walkers on the southern upland way crossing Scotland. Overlooking the north end of the loch is a monument to James Hogg – the Scottish Poet known as the Ettrick Shepherd, friend and contemporary of Sir Walter Scott. Taken 4/3/08 (untouched) with a pocket fuji finepix A500 (There is a 2nd loch of the lowes further north in Perthshire, complete with osprey viewing centre – but you can see the wonderful fish eagle hunting here too if you are lucky!) Castle Kilchurn on the banks of Loch Awe, the site of many battles in Scottish history. The McGregors were the dominant clan in the Loch Awe area until being eclipsed by the Campbells who built Castle Kilchurn in 1450. / The Castle was held by the Campbells for 400 years and became a government stronghold in Jacobean times, but with the pacification of the Highland Clans and the dispersal of the McGregors, the Castle outlived its usefulness. / The Castle was abandoned completely at the end of the 18th Century and then had the misfortune to be burnt out after a “lightning strike” Most likely a stray McGregor…

This was taken on my first trip to Skye. I had camped out overnight, in order to make the most of the morning light. I had been down to the beach the previous evening in order to find locations, but as I was walking along the shore I saw the roundish rock glinting in the sun. It may be a ‘new’ version of an old shot …but is it improved…? hmm….thats the question…. (CLICK ‘next’ to compare….) The original untouched dawn mist was my 2nd ever post to rb with taken with my brand-new pocket fuji finepix A500… and it’s been the most popular shot in my gallery by far. It’s just reached the unbelievable figure of 100 faves – how awesome and mindboggling is that!! So this plus a new challenge gave me the idea of tweaking it slightly to see if it could be improved on . I fiddled with the jpg as camera raw in PS Els 6… / Comments, comparisons and suggestions most welcome as I’d love to know what you think….. This wee cottage sits on the shores of Loch Torridon, ( a sea-loch ) with views to die for. Someone described the paint-job on the roof as “rather unfortunate”, but I beg to differ – for me it is utterly enchanting. / ( Plus a wonderful photographic opportunity !) Ben Loyal lies in the very Far North of Scotland, in an extremely remote and beautiful location. This is a truly wild place, and the only sounds I heard while photographing this scene was some Wild Geese on Loch Meadie, and a lonesome Golden Plover. In mid-Summer, the sunset and sunrise are not very far apart this far North, and this was shot around 3.30am !! PS, we were parked up in a VW campervan, otherwise I definitely would have rolled over and gone back to sleep ! A scan from Fuji Velvia film, shot on a Ricoh KR10 super, f11, mounted on a tripod. Processed in Photoshop CS3. Driving home one evening from Glasgow, after a a holiday in Corsica, this scene begged to be photographed ! A gorgeous Summers evening, when all things seem to be at peace with the world ! / However, encounter Glen Coe on a day when the weather is as wild as can be, and you will experience the very sombre mood and brooding atmosphere that is ‘The Glen of Weeping’. The name of the lochan is a spelling nightmare !! We really don’t get much snow on the West Coast of Scotland, because of the influence of the Gulf Stream, and on the rare occasion it does fall, it is soon gone!! / Beinn Bhan is one of the peaks of the Applecross range, seen here from near Ardarroch, Loch Kishorn, on a gorgeous Winter’s afternoon. just as the sun was going down…at around 3.30pm !! A scene I have often passed by, but either the light was wrong, or I didn’t have the time. / On this occasion, things fell into place, except for the fact that I had left my tripod at home !! DOH !! (on a shopping trip for provisions to Fort William !) / It is a hand-held three shot hdr, because of the extreme lighting. / Loch Lochy is reputed to have a “monster” like Loch Ness ! Shot on my Canon EOS50D, iso 100, auto wb, three RAW’s at -2EV, +2EV,0EV, hand held braced against a bush for added stability, Canon 17-85mm IS lens set at 53mm, f11, processed in Photomatix, then Adobe CS3, with colour adjustments, and more selective levels / curves. Kyleakin is the first village encountered on the Isle of Skye, when you cross over the bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh…....this is where the old Ferry boat used to land, which I don’t miss at all, romantic it might be, but darned inconvenient !! / The old ruin you can see behind the boats is Castle Moil…......a few facts for you….... “The 14th Century Castle Moil has had many names in its long history. Also known as Dun Akyn (Norse for Hakon’s Fort) and An Caisteal Maol in Gaelic, it is now a romantic ruin. Sited at the Skye end of the road bridge in the village of Kyleakin, the castle has Norse connections. Legend has it that a Norwegian princess, otherwise known as “Saucy Mary”, ordered a chain to be hung from the castle to the mainland so that no boat could pass without paying a tax.” / Nothing new under the sun then, eh ??!! LOL !! A three RAW HDR, shot on my Canon EOS 50D, polarising filter fitted, iso 100, f23, Auto WB, processed in Photomatix, then sprucing up in Adobe Photoshop CS3. / I used HDR because of the extreme light / shadow.
