This is my “Living Dead Girl”. Inspired by Rob Zombie. I found this doll out in the woods near an old abandoned broke down shack. She was lying in the leaves face down and when I rolled her over, I instantly thought of Rob Zombie’s Living Dead Girl. “Psyclone Jack / Hallucinating Hack / Thinks Donna Reed / Eats dollar bills / Goldfoot machine / Creates another fiend / So Beautiful, / They make you kill Crawl on me / Sink into me / Die for me / Living Dead Girl”

I am still working on the other images in this series. I like challenging myself in new ways, with my self-portraits. And i thought it would be interesting to see if i could make it look like i was interacting with myself . . . in some way. I shot this series against a green screen. The background was taken from a photo-shoot i did at an industrial site in Seattle, Washington. The watchman was kind of enough to let me onto the grounds and gave me a tour and all access pass with my camera. I wanted to convey the extreme sadness i feel with manic depression. Over the years i have discovered that sadness is often anger, spread really thin, masquerading as melancholy. Anger is an emotion i have a very difficult time allowing myself to feel and express, i often repress it. As a child i was not allowed to express my feelings or my anger. There is a detachment that comes with sadness, a disconnect from the self, from the world . . . Not so much to say about this one. An old doll resting in my living room.

This gorgeous blonde Barbie is from the 1970’s and looks at first glance to be a Living Barbie. This doll moves in all directions and was the first to have bendy arms and jointed wrists and ankles, her waist is also moveable. Released as a special issue doll she is actually an Equestrian Barbie and has no ‘real’ eyelashes like the Living Barbie, a way to use leftovers. A HTF doll, she was available more so in Australia than anywhere else so it is easier to find one of these gorgeous mod era Barbie dolls here. She’s a lovely fringed doll and looks so pretty in the very summery Lace Caper outfit, an original tagged mod barbie outfit. One of my fave dolls in my collection. The doll in the background is coming up soon, she is a stunning Nolan Miller designed Barbie called Sheer Indulgence.
