  • Reminding me to be joyful…

  • I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons. • views: 1942 / favs: 54 My origami calendar I used tweezers to create the last few folds. The paper I folded with was about 15×15mm big. Basically I present the creator and the creation where the crane is framed by my fingers forming a circle. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny little specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. / / For a better idea of scale: / / / I did not make this crane and take the picture with the description in my mind; but created it by instinct. It wasn’t easy drawing out my words initially. However many viewers have left very inspiring comments about my work, and for that I am grateful. • When I first spotted Jódís Eiríksdóttir’s “A Little Planet” in the buyer’s booth I was mezmerised. I’d never seen anything quite like it. A little further investigation revealed that what I was staring at was a polar panorama. My next thought was “how did she do it?” I’ve managed to hunt down the following resources for those who would like to give it a try but you can find more online by searching “Polar Panorama Tutorial”. Basic ingredients include a digital camera to shoot your panorama and PhotoShop or Gimp to work the magic. If anyone’s had more experience making these then we’d love to see a tutorial or hear your hints and tips! Tutorial: Create Your Own Planets (PhotoShop and Gimp) How to make planet-like panoramas with photoshop Stereographic Projection is a similar technique which involves a bit more effort and a whole lot more maths but if you’re keen to find out more then try these resources: Stereographic Projection (wikipedia) Wee Planets Or you could just make yourself a cuppa, pull up a comfy chair and marvel at these wonderful images … / Lighthouse World by Digerati / Caloundra QLD Polar Panorama by Lars / Little Planet – Julianapark 01 Utrecht by mtths / Small world of Provincetown by Alyeska / Lonely Planet by Peter Marin And there are more over at the Polar Panorama Planets group …

  • This was fun. / I started with a photo that I found in an old reference file – did a marker sketch on white 80 lb. cover stock paper using warm and cool grey markers and then layered cool and warm colored chalk pastels on top. I dedicate this piece to Jack Kershner of Lance Lot Studios. He hired me right after graduating from college. He taught me so much about the advertising business and I will share some of the wonderful stories with you some day soon in my Journal. Here is one that pertains to this piece - One early spring afternoon Jack told me that I should bring my lunch with me the next day. He was going to take me somewhere special for a picnic. The next day we closed the shop early for lunch and we walked through the busy business district where the studio was located to an underpass beneath the county courthouse. It was a typical windy St. Louis spring day and we were having some difficulty spreading out our sack lunch on a metal bench that was directly under a flight of stairs that took you up to the landing in front of the courthouse. It was like being inside of a wind tunnel and I didn’t see any special reason for being here… until all of the secretaries that worked in the surrounding buildings (dressed in their business dresses and skirts) decided to also go to lunch and use the stairs that we were sitting under to get to all of the restaurants. It was quite a show as each one battled with the wind whirling up the stairs. Okay… I am not too proud of that now, but I was just 21 at the time, and this was my first job after school, and my first boss…

  • All of the profit from this calendar goes to the Starlight Foundation. Please support this worthwhile cause! Thank you. / I choose this charity firstly because I love what they do and secondly because my daughter nicknamed her little brother when he was born as “Mr Starlight” so it seemed apt that I pick the Starlight Foundation. I started this as a solo project then realised it could also be used to help mumpreneurs so offered some spots to some great online businesses. Connect2Mums (www.connect2mums.com.au) came on board as corporate sponsor. Thank you so much to everyone that participated in this project- together we can make a difference by supporting Starlight.
