  • portrait of a big African male lion

  • Found this guy late afternoon after he was sleeping the whole day. He did not want to get up so I had to try and get close and zoom in to get this facial close up. Image form the Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa.

  • I was sitting watching this female as she was stalking wildebeest in the Madikwe Game Reserve. She slowly made her way up the side of a dam wall and that is when I was able to get this image. Love the angle of this image. (PS – Her stalk was eventually unsuccesful!)

  • Is there not almost a human face in there somewhere? This sub adult lion was photographed in the Lion Park just outside of Johannesburg, South Africa,

  • A male white lion. Timing must have been slightly off, but I could swear he was winking at me! :) The image taken in the Lion Park outside Johannesburg in South Africa.

  • Plain and simple. I was sitting with a pride of 6 lions that have killed a zebra hoping to get some action shots. This was not to be the case so I spent some time with this young female. Close up you can almost see the ‘personality’ of these beautiful animals! Image taken in the Madikwe Game Reserve.

  • Lioness relaxing while her male throws a tantrum!

  • We followed the Dipelo pride on a hunt one morning in the Madikwe Game Reserve. This young male, who is currently around 2.5 years old, is going to be an absolute beauty when he grows up! 25% of all my Red Bubble profts will go to the Endangered Wildlife Trust

  • Lion – King of the Jungle – Lord of the beasts.

  • The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a possibly irreversible population decline of 30 to 50% over the past two decades in its African range; populations are untenable outside designated reserves and national parks. Although the cause of the decline is not well-understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are currently the greatest causes of concern. Lions have been kept in menageries since Roman times and have been a key species sought after and exhibited in zoos the world over since the late eighteenth century. Zoos are cooperating worldwide in breeding programs for the endangered Asiatic subspecies. The Fractalius Filter was applied to this image to achieve these results.

  • This little guy would not leave his family alone! They were taking siesta below an acacia and he was just full of energy. You could tell the adults were NOT pleased! Kenya / Nikon FE with 300 mm lens, Velvia film / Scanned from slide

  • A lioness with her cubs – Maasai Mara National Park, Kenya.

  • These are the two alpha females of the pride…I call them the “Girls” they make the kills to feed everyone…they eat 1st UNLESS the alpha male is around then he takes his meal 1st…the young ones eat last. The girls are watching the young ones eat. / /
