  • A worked rubbing from a lino cut. Digitally coloured and manipulated. (2000). Unfortunately since the release of the Matrix movies the vertical visual text I used to use is no longer showing up much in my work.

  • Colour reduction lino cut. This is the glow of the Steelworks over the hill that we see at night.

  • Lino cuts that have been inked up intaglio and then relief and then a bit of a’la pupe, on avorio paper. They are all bleed prints also.

  • lino print on brown paper This is my largest print, measuring about 50cm by 35cm. It was made by chiselling out a piece of Linoleum. / Unlike with the collograph, a lino print works backwards, removing all the areas I wished to remain white. In sucha large piece, this took quite a long time to achieve, adn there were several slips and injuries to fingers along the way! / the plate took me about 2 weeks to complete, and I still had no idea whether it would work until that first test run through the press! Working in reverse (as the image will be printed back to front) is quite triccky and confusing, and the first few runs through the press were disastrous!! Lots of fiddling about and adjusting pressures, trying different paper, colours, ... until finally i settled on the brown, rather textured surface. I dont’ knwo what else to say, but am happy to answer any questions you might have (o:

  • This was based on a portrait of someone I know. The sketch was whilst we were along the river Cam in Cambridge and the wind was blowing across her face. I also took some photos and combined the effect. The manga cartoons inspired me slightly on this one to make it more dramatic. / The medium is a Lino cut on paper.

  • A combination of an etching and linocut embossment. 25cm X 28cm on BFK Rives Etching on zinc plate – hard ground (for main shapes), soft ground (for textures) followed by a deep bit for added zing. Inked up in black only. Linocut embossment – much easier: cut up the pieces of lino to match the size of the zinc plate and cut into the lino then emboss the wet paper. No aligning needed as i ran them through the press concurrently.

  • Linoprint on paper Last Autumn, on holiday in Finland, I decided to brave the estuary waters whilst having a sauna. I worked out it was a mental thing, this dealing with cold; rather than automatically flinch from it I allowed it to envelop me and relaxed into it. What did I have to loose? I could always warm up in the sauna after. As I floated on my back in the cold water at twilight a flock of cranes flew low overhead into the marshes opposite, honking loudly. It was one of those moments I will treasure for ever. This is my memorial to that moment.
