  • taken during Viva Las Vagas 2008, randomly in the Gold Coast Casino by Linda Kramer, working on a book of portraits . I was alone & lost when she found me, plus had hay fever which explains the watery eyes. I was 1 of probably hundreds of people she took that weekend. The book should be worth a gander….

  • Linda Longface by Karin Taylor / Story and Illustration by Karin Taylor / (seeing the rose rather than the thorns) / - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - Linda’s name was very appropriate because she always had a long face! Linda had a long face before breakfast because her plaits weren’t perfect! (There were whisps of hair poking out here and there). Linda had a long face at breakfast because the cereal was lumpy! Grrrrrr! (She liked it smooth). Linda had a long face after breakfast because her school uniform wasn’t perfect. Grrrrr! (She had spilt a drip of milk on her skirt). Linda had a long face at the bus stop because she was running late. Grrrrr! (And she forgot her drink bottle). Linda had a long face on the bus because she couldn’t sit down. Grrrr! (The bus was too full). Linda had a long face when the bus arrived at school because her best friend Jackie wasn’t waiting for her. Grrrr! (Jackie had the chicken pox). Linda had a long face at morning tea because she swallowed a fly. Grrrr! (The fly flew in her drink and she gulped it down). Linda had a long face during school because Henry Halliwell had to sit next to her. Grrrr! (Henry sometimes smells). Linda had a long face at lunch time because she found a tuna sandwich inside her lunch box instead of a jam sandwich. Grrrrr! (Mummy should know better!) Linda had a long face at her desk because Hugo Jeffries borrowed her black crayon and used it all up. Grrrr! (Hugo did the same thing at least twice a week!) Linda had a long face on the way home because her brother Max called her a ‘sissy’ in front of her friends. Grrrrr! (Max loved to tease Linda because of the long face she pulled). Linda had a long face after school because none of her clothes fitted properly and she thought she looked silly. Grrrrr! (Linda had 8 drawers full of clothes and a wardrobe but nothing looked right.) Linda had a long face at dinner time because Dad had cooked macaroni cheese. Grrrrr! (Linda was sure she left Mum instructions to cook sausages for tea tonight) Linda had a long face after dinner because someone had used up the last bit of toothpaste. Grrrr! (Max had the hide to blame Linda for it!) Linda had a long face at bed time because Peepers the cat was sleeping on her pillow. Grrrrr! ( Peepers was malting and his fur was everywhere!) Linda Longface was absolutely exhausted and all night long she had a long face in her dreams. Grrrrr! (She couldn’t even be happy in her sleep!) Poor Linda Longface………_if only everything were perfect_, then she could have a happy face! Every time something didn’t turn out the way she thought or hoped it would, Linda would wear her long face. But having a long face all the time was wearing Linda out. She was absolutely exhausted! All of us feel upset sometimes and this is normal, but Linda was long faced all the time! How can we help Linda to have a happy face? Okay, let’s say Linda’s having a ‘bad hair day’ for instance…..well, EVERYONE has ‘bad hair days’, but everyone that loves Linda doesn’t care if her hair is a bit messy……everyone still LOVES Linda! So that’s something to be happy about. Here’s another one, for instance, Linda had a long face at morning tea because she swallowed a fly, this upset her…….but look at it a different way, the fly TICKLED HER TUMMY when she swallowed it, so she had something funny to share at Show and Tell that afternoon! So that’s something to be happy about. We’ll try one more……Linda had a long face at bed time because Peepers the cat was sleeping on her pillow and there was fur all over it ……but look at it this way, Peepers enjoys snuggling up with Linda and likes her company AND it was a great excuse to throw on her special new pink satin pillowcase! There is more than one way to look at a problem. A problem is an opportunity to learn and discover, to grow and mature, to become a solver, not just SADDER. You don’t have to wear a long face, long faces give us tired minds and bodies… a happy face is much more fun for me, my family and everyone! Can you think of some other ways Linda could have a happy face if she tried to look at things differently? The next time you have a long face, try looking at the situation from a different point of view, look for something good about it, or a way to change it or another way to tackle it, use your imagination and wear a happy face instead. WORKSHEET Use your imagination to look at each situation differently. Think of ways you can help Linda to be happy, even though things haven’t worked out perfectly. (illustration was drawn with pen by hand and digitally coloured in photoshop) / this story was written in response to a situation we had at our home with our little girl, who was constantly wearing a ‘long face’ like Linda….we wanted to impress upon her that there is more than one way to look at a problem, and encourage her to look for the ‘up-side’

  • Author Amber Elizabeth Fromm / Artist Linda Brintzenhofe / Principles and Pride Principles and Pride; I call for you do not hear the loneliness and ache that my heart must bear …Ah But to forgive and move beyond and back towards the stars that we once shared, My part a moment of shyness, a moment of doubt of fear… of Pride. / For the honesty of lovers secrets has become the daggers of heartache and pain. I can never forget how we sought solace, sought comfort, and once found love again, “ Pride is now the principle and justification is the stage, and the demons swirl with laughter as I fight the turning page. Not a day goes by with not lingering thoughts of forgiveness …To Dream of closure or to Rebuild this loss… To Start the chapter once again to say the plot was lost. To forgive is to love and to mend is to heal, once again I’ say go away , yet away you dancing little fools, For If….I hope … I pray… we could recapture the moment and set this foolishness aside say enough of Principles let alone of Pride. / I shake them for they do not hold me long… not Principles nor Pride to tell you that I love you, and wish you at my side … I long for the return of you I’m standing alone. Can we Can we? / Recapture, set this foolishness aside?” The Selfishness of Principles The selfishness of PRIDE…. I wait… Yet do I stand.. for I’m Standing / For I Love
