If you look very closely you will see the goldfish swimming among the lilypads.

For this piece I used a combination of Rembrandt pastel sticks and CarbOthello pastel pencils, I like using very vivid colors with some contrasting tones to capture this beauty. I was very interested in the shadow on the lily pad and I really was attracted to the fluidness and motion of the petals as it stood alert and proud on its pad. The roots in the water (upper left corner) is to me, like its life system, it shows strength and support.

Along the canals and in the swamps of the Everglades the lily pads grow in abundance, the most common ones I saw this day were these yellow ones which will start to bloom any day now if htey havent already and some purple ones which grow on smaller pads. The blue sky made the water looks so wonderful against the green of the pads, I hope you enjoy. I was thinking about 9-11 when I took this shot at marsh at Indian Creek Nature Center, Upstate NY, St. Lawrence County,, on 09/07/09.. two trees still standing, despite the elements and time / plan too go back when fall colors are in bloom,, this is called the upper lower lakes region of this preserve,, It has two watch towers at different angles of the marsh for bird watching, photo taking,, or just too simply enjoy mother nature at her best,, / “marsh” / “marsh”
