...Lily! These beautiful flowers always remind me of when I moved to Pennsylvania in 2000, as they were blooming then…the first flower that really caught my eye – so abundant! I still love the brilliant orange blooms.

Almost the last lilies to bloom in our garden each summer, the Casa Blancas put on a performance well worth waiting for! They are tall, lavish in their profusion, and exude a fragrance that rivals the finest perfume. They are high on my list of “keepers”! Watercolor painted on Arches 140 cold press, 21”x 14-1/2” Permission to use this image for any reason must first be granted in writing by the artist.
I saw this garden gate this summer and wanted to paint it right away. To me it is so inviting.

Best Viewed Large This little guy … and all his brothers and sisters … love to come take a dip in my pool every night (I think it rains toads here) ... and every morning it is my great pleasure to scoop them out … one by one … and set them free. They’re about the size of a fingernail … a regular fingernail, you know, the kind that scrubs floors and does a bit of gardening (when not taking pictures, that is), not those long fancy manicured types. I decided the other day that it was time these guys paid for all my rescue efforts with a little modeling. Fear not … after 5 minutes or so he was sent on his merry way!!! Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon/Nikkor macro/micro lens on the morning of June 21, 2009. Shutter at 1/400, aperture f/10.0, exp. 0.00, iso 400. Also Available:

Featured in Dimensions August 20, 2009. Best on Full Size Having some fun with the macro/micro lens in my garden (Montgomery County, Maryland) the other day, August 3, 2009, I found this darling little critter (thought she was a grasshopper but have been told by wiser heads than mine that she’s a Katy-Did) enjoying brunch. Loved the way she munched away on the flower thingie like a cob of hot buttered corn!!!! Handheld image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon macro/micro lens. Shutter 1/640, aperture f/13, exp -.33, iso 200. Minor cropping and levels work in Photoshop.
Another great and fragrant lily in the garden! This one is called “Arena.”
This image consists of three layers, the background layer which is a daylily macro, and the two overlapping images, a Gulf Fritillary butterfly and a zinnia. After selecting the background image, I selected two photos to overlay over the original image. I removed everything but the butterfly and the zinnia in those images, copied and pasted them onto the background image, and then tweaked the layers for this effect. I also added a drop shadow to the entire image to give it the black backdrop for contrast. Hope someone likes this; it was lots of fun to put together.
Not my normal photography, but loved the result… As a favorite garden flower of antiquity, the lily was fabled to have sprung from the milk of the Greek goddess Hera and was linked to fecundity not only in Greece but also in Egypt and the Middle East generally, where it was a popular decorative motif. The only white lily that bloomed here in Washington, late this summer, shot as is.
A photo of a beautiful Swallowtail butterfly in my landlords lily garden… taken in August, this past summer. Afterwork includes adding depth with layers of texturing and embossing filters to create another dimension. LavenderMoon~ / FEATURED IN THE ‘LIVE AND LET LIVE’ GROUP NOVEMBER 2009 /
