The ancient and architecturally beautiful centre of Lille, France was invaded by hundreds of good humoured bikers this Saturday afternoon. They later all departed en mass for a ride out with wheelies, burn outs, donuts etc! / I edited the photo to emphasise the colourful bikes, helmets etc against the monotone architecture.

It is the principal city of the Lille Métropole, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the country behind those of Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Lille is situated on the Deûle River, near France’s border with Belgium. / Grand’ Place is the heart of Lille, its main square. The Grand’ Place is also known as the place du Général de Gaulle. /

The centre of Lille has some marvellous architecture, seen at its best on a wonderful April day in 2007.. / I used 3 different exposures here which were combined with HDR (Photomatix Pro), then desaturated and tweaked in Photoshop, to really make the elaborate carvings on the building stand out. / 17mm lens.
