If you look closely (in the “large” view) you’ll notice that some of the black spots are actually ants. Summer 2007 – Rotterdam, NY / One of my girlfriend’s parents purchased a home that was owned by a Master Gardener and neither of them gardened. They asked me to come and tell them what their plants were, thin some out and feel free to photograph them. After a few hours, I had enough plants to fill half my garden and had filled up my photo cards, not to mention I couldn’t help but trim one of their trees while their backs were turned. I’ve only seen this Oriental Tigerlily at this garden and one other – both having been planted by Master Gardeners. I didn’t have the heart to dig any of them up. I had to lay on my back to shoot this as the blooms point downward.
Original acrylic painting on canvas.
Someday… on a clear, still, moonlit night; / To the beach, is where we’ll go. / With a blanket and hot chocolate already packed; / Walk, hand in hand, on soft, warm sand; / Down to the water’s edge, where we’ll dance awhile; / Oh, to hold you close and whisper in your ear; / Those three words you’ve longed to hear. / Brush aside the hair which hides your face; / See a smile grow and laughter kiss your lips; / Then sit with you ‘til dawn‘s early light; / Your hand in my left, hot chocolate in my right. / Precious moments, dreams and memories; / Someday… with you, I want to share.
i was shooting macros of this lily when this butterfly landed on it :) shot this using a nikon diopter lens attached to a canon 75-300mm lens, if im not mistaken this is a great spangled frilitary
Orange Clivia Miniata , taken at Heronswood Homestead, Dromana, Mornington Peninsua, Australia The afternoon sun came through the overhead trees to shine right into the cup of the flower, a most unusual phenomena, a lucky capture! Clivia miniata, also known as Bush lily, is a species of clivia, from South Africa. It grows to a height of about 45cm in the shade of trees and shrubs, and flowers are red or orange, with a faint, but very sweet perfume. / Clivias are named after Lady Clive the Duchess of Northumberland, whose grandfather was the famous Clive of India / Panasonic FZ20

Lily stamen, shot with a macro lens. /
I tried to do some macro photography outside in my garden after the rains, and found this Inca Lily with droplets on the stamen and the inside of the flower. I tried several shots (but without a tripod) and had a few blurry pictures from that. But I also got a few really nice ones and I especially love this one – love the sunburst on drops and could not get those for a while. Did something right and this one droplet has a sunburst! Best Viewed Large This little guy … and all his brothers and sisters … love to come take a dip in my pool every night (I think it rains toads here) ... and every morning it is my great pleasure to scoop them out … one by one … and set them free. They’re about the size of a fingernail … a regular fingernail, you know, the kind that scrubs floors and does a bit of gardening (when not taking pictures, that is), not those long fancy manicured types. I decided the other day that it was time these guys paid for all my rescue efforts with a little modeling. Fear not … after 5 minutes or so he was sent on his merry way!!! Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon/Nikkor macro/micro lens on the morning of June 21, 2009. Shutter at 1/400, aperture f/10.0, exp. 0.00, iso 400. Also Available:

Best on Full Size Having some fun with the macro/micro lens in my garden (Montgomery County, Maryland) the other day, August 3, 2009, I found this darling little critter (thought she was a grasshopper but have been told by wiser heads than mine that she’s a Katy-Did) enjoying brunch. Loved the way she munched away on the flower thingie like a cob of hot buttered corn!!!! Handheld image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon macro/micro lens. Shutter 1/640, aperture f/13, exp -.33, iso 200. Minor cropping and levels work in Photoshop.
