I took this at Martin Place on Good Friday 2007. Being Good Friday, 8 am and rainy, there was hardly anyone out, which made for a great photo opportunity. This is a HDR with 3xp and as B&W Conversion in Lightroom.
This shot was taken near the Vaulcluse Lighthouse. It is agreat example of what HDR can do. Normaly it would be impossible to shoot straight into the sun, because you would either expose for the sun, in which case the rest goes dark or you expose for the foreground in which case the sky and the sun would blow out completely. Bringing different exposures together using HDR, you get correct exposures for the entire image. You can read more about HDR on my blog: / http://alexkess.wordpress.com/2007/03/11/hdr-technique/ And thank you again for all the favs and nice comments.
Here is another shot that I took as part of the 24hrs of flckr. Looking straight down between my House and the fence. It is a bit of an attempt to turn something ordinary into something extraordinary and to give this mundane subject its 15 minutes of fame. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Taken near Shellharbour, NSW, just sout of Wollongong. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers Alex
I went down to the Como Pleasure Grounds the other day. It’s funny how you can live almost right next to a place, and not realize how beautifull it is… This shot was taken under a beaurifull tree looking out towards the Train Bridge and the Marina. It is a 5xp HDR, pushing the limits a bit, but I think it gives the tree a real 3dimensional feel. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers, Alex
A hole in the wall that I found at Broadway Carpark. I think it’s a drainage pipe… Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers and Thanks, Alex
A couple of shots of the Harbour Bridge. I got to work a bit early, so I took the oportunity to take a few shots of the Sunrise over Sydney. Unfortunately the Sun was nowhere to be seen. I still think they came out alright. Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . Cheers and Thanks, Alex

Experimenting with Lightroom…which I am still trying to navigate…...any tips are welcome
This Toyota concept vehicle was on display at the 2008 Melbourne International Motorshow. I went crazy with a flood filter and got rid of the people standing around it to create this image. The car is called the FT-H5 and is a hybrid electric concept, the car was also on display at the Chicago motorshow. Click here for my other photos of cars!
Large View Recommended. Not my usual fare… I was out hiking along the East Coast Trail near Quidi Vidi Lake when I looked up and saw a LOT of gulls getting out of dodge a hurry, so I spun and quickly snapped a shot. 20 seconds later a coast guard helicopter goes soaring on by… no wonder those gulls were in a rush! Photo taken roughly here. :P Heavily edited, processed, straightened, retouched, manipulated, kicked, and tortured. Also a light Orton effect. I like it anyway. RB’s compression and optimization does NOT reproduce a lot of muted greys well. There are no compression jaggles in the original RAW or JPEG.
Taken at 9:19pm on the way home from a shoot at Sandringham Beach under the light of a full moon. A bulb exposure of around 40 seconds @ f7.1. Couldn’t let it go too long otherwise the moon would blur out. Hadn’t taken a pic from this spot before but it’s pretty close to home :) They have been widening this freeway for months to make it 4 lanes bothways but I don’t think they have yet realised that it still has to go down into a 3 lane tunnel in peak hour to cross the Westgate Bridge. In peak hour it may as well be a 2 lane tunnel because they have to close the left lane in heavy traffic to let through emergency vehicles in the event of an emergency someone wasn’t smart enough (or prepared to spend enough money) to put in a shoulder! Taken with my trusty Canon 40D with 10-22mm lens, Velbon tripod and trusty canon shutter release otherwise a bulb exposure wouldn’t be achievable. Looking out across Port Phillip Bay from next to the pier at Half Moon Bay. HMVS Cerberus can be seen at the top right on the horizon of the image. Taken with my Canon 40D and processed in Adobe Lightroom 2. Click here for my other seascapes
...if you were facing this way but most people were going the other way! I have a love/hate affair with freeways, hate being on them but love taking photos of them and seeing this one is only 5 minutes from my house it’s always the one I go to. Walking home from the station I looked up and that damn this is gonna be a good sunset and as I didn’t have enough time to get anywhere near the coast or somewhere beautiful I headed here instead. / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S.
