this was a pretty long exposure about 45min. it was a massive storm that hit the coast and as it moved out to sea i procedeed to take some exposures. not very many though due to their length.

A widespread thunderstorm out to sea, seen from Sawtell. There was a lot of activity – all very distant, and many discharges both within the thunderheads and below. / / .......................................................................................... / Image Copyright Duncan Waldron © 2007 / This image may not be reproduced without permission / .......................................................................................... / /
A 4 second exposure over Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria…This thunderstorm really got going and had me licking my lips with enthusiastic anticipation as frequent pulsating ‘blue’ and ‘purple’ tinged bolts screamed down from the heavens…a bit of a pity it weakened after 10minutes and 10km’s short of my location. I still managed to capture this awesome staccato bolt though ! / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50 view this image large bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio ©T.Middleton2009 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / *see more of my weather related photography by clicking below / /
Went down to the beach early this morning to shoot some night shots…. the clouds weren’t right for the type of shooting I was trying to do… however I did get this bonus. There was a storm out at sea a few miles offshore. It would have been nice if it had of come in close to the shore, but then beggars can’t be choosers. Got this shot of lightning going off within the cloud during one of my long exposures.
Had the camera pointing the right way this evening many years ago when I still lived in the western suburbs of Sydney. This is an “anvil crawler” – a type of lightning that appears to “crawl” along the underside of strong thunderstorm anvils. In this case it crawled straight at me :)
This photograph was taken from Alstonville in Northeast NSW on one of those rare evenings when lightning-active thunderstorms continue for hours. Needless to say a lot of pictures were taken that night with this one of the better shots. A roll cloud extending in from the coast near Ballina topped off the scene.

A summer thunderstorm in Boston, Massachussetts.
Thunderstorms, frantic fowl, an airplane, some buildings and even trees! What more could someone ask for!?
It has been wonderful month of stormy weather and rain in the desert. Captured tonight, just outside my back gate. I had a wonderful time sitting and gazing open-mouthed at the spectacular lightning show that unfolded before my eyes. This image features one of my favourite kurkara (desert oak trees) silhouetted against the stormy night sky. As an added bonus tonight, I captured these images whilst listening to the incredible soundtrack of frogs singing in the desert – a rare and wonderful sound. These little fellas spend most of the time burrowed under the bark of trees or in the earth… just waiting for the rains to fall again. What a special treat to hear them tonight! The lightning was elusive, even though I was there for a long time, Brisbane from Kangaroo Point
Lightning strike over Port Phillip Bay as seen from a place called Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula in Australia.
Taken last year on the 29/12/08, not many storms this year(only 1 really) . / Not sure on this one due to the amount of white surrounding the bolt, too much? Send to the scrap heap and wait for the next one? Looking across the Southport Broadwater towards the hi-rises of Main Beach. / 30seconds f5.6. Lens 18mm View more of my storm images / / Storms

This image is based on a photograph I took of someone dressed as Kakashi at Supernova. The sun doubles as his shirangan eye. If you are not familiar with Naruto/ Naruto Shippuden (of which Kakashi is a prominent character) I recommend checking it out.
So Maxie thinks he is anyway. This shot made me giggle, the look on his face is so serious :-)
This storm occurred 21/12/06 approx 60km north of Adelaide tracking SE from the northern gulf region, and i intercepted near a town called Dublin, just along the Port Wakefield Hwy. The Bureau of Meteorology labelled this dangerous storm and developed into a defined squall line. The image is comprised of 9 exposures stitched together, and was taken briefly before i was pelted with mud, wheat husks and probably sheep poo. I witnessed imbedded gustnadoes on the leading edge, severe wind gusts i would estimate over 120km/h, 2cm hail and lightning every second. The storm weakened as it progressed to the northern suburbs as i pushed on further north, however the second line wasn’t as fruitful.

This was shot on a canon 300D, on a tripod with a 30 second exposure. / I shot it during a summer storm in Sydney from my grandmother’s apartment building. The weather that night was magnificent, so much thunder and lightning and rain. Luckily i was just far enough away from the storm that there was only a light drizzle. / The show mother nature put on was spectacular and i stood out there for almost 4 hours with my shutter open the whole time. / I ended up taking about 700 shots, with about 80 of them capturing the lightning. You’d be surprised at how many time lightning strikes in between shots. A lot! / The shots from that night are a wonderful reminder of how powerful mother nature can be, especially against the man-made cityscape.
