Yet another storm image from the tornadic Limbscomb storm this year, but this was just before sunset when the shelf was pushing east towards the Oklahoma state line. Lucky lightning in this one. Taken from a field behind my house, this was an amazing storm! =)smile /
Lighting strikes so hard and so strong but still i hang out under the tree waiting for that perfect shot… well nearly perfect
In the warm summer night, I watched this amazing dry storm cell pass over me from the West. It looked like it was going to cross right over top of me – so I made an escape plan (run like hell!) But in the end, it turned north and head away from me – not before I captured this. Camera Tech / Make: SONY / Model: DSLR-A100 / Shutter Speed: 50 second / F Number: F/4.0 / Focal Length: 18 mm / ISO Speed: 80 / Date Picture Taken: Jan 27, 2007, 10:04:06 PM
Image by photographer Glennis Siverson. A thunderstorm rolls in over Lake Adair in Orlando, Florida, as cars drive by on the wet pavement.
Seastorm off Bundeena Cliffs in Royal National Park just south of Sydney Australia. Taken using the brilliant Startrails Photoshop Action to blend 15 X 30sec identical exposures. You can download the Action from here: / http://www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startrails.html If you view in Large mode you can see startrails between the clouds. Also the short horizontal light along the horizon is a fishing trawler. Funnily enough there was an average of only one lightning bolt per exposure. / I’ve now photographed 5 storms off these cliffs and the really curious thing I’ve noticed is that the lightning always seems to concentrate in the same places – here and about another 45 degrees to the right along the horizon. I know now that if I set my camera up here or at the other angle I’m always going to get the best lightning shots – weird or what? I would have thought the lightning strikes would be much more random than that.
This was shot as a storm rolled over Surfers Paradise last night..
Another from the same night as Marina Mirage, this was a good storm to watch and follow View more of my storm images / / Storms
THE WITCH UPON THE HILL (At least I hope that you will enjoy this poem that I read in a book) Her eyes are black, the midnight sea, / Her hair, a sooty cloud / Her voice, the winds of fantasy / Her heart like fire, and proud I could not help but watch her / As beneath the moon she danced. / She whirled, she cast, she conjured / She sang a mystic chant She soared into my sould that night / The starry sky her wings / She whispered secrets in my dreams / And spoke of sacred things Im my mind, she entranced me / Her kiss was magick-laced / Her touch, it left me trembling / And craving her embrace The Skys obey her every wish, / The elements, her commands, / She wields a power over me, / My heart lies in her hands For her I’d cross the universe, / For her I’d swim the sea, / But what could an Enchantress want / With a simple man like me? She came, and said “I love you, / And likely, always will.” / My heart, I pledge, forevermore / To the witch upon the hill. / I created this image image using Photoshop. It is a mixture of Images that i layered and manipulated to create this image. It is an original concept created by me. / I would like to thank the contributing artists that allowed me to use their beautiful stock images. / (Always ask permission first before using or stealing anyone else s work, they work hard to create their art!) I’ve only been to Darwin once – in the summer of 1997 to visit my brother. I timed the trip to maximise storm potential though opportunities remained limited while I was there. Fortunately this storm put out some nice lightning near Darwin Airport.
Another storm off the Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park just south of Sydney. I just realised I’ve got all these storm shots from the last couple of years that I haven’t got around to posting and as I don’t have enough yet on RB to create a calendar I thought I’d better get onto it. / How to describe the beauty of this night from a couple of years ago? I’ve never seen a storm go through anything like the transitions of this one. It started out in the most simple and minimalist of ways – just the odd bolt of lightning with a band of teal light sandwiched between an almost jet black band of cloud and an equally black ocean. Gradually, over a couple of hours the storm gathered into itself and moved into this almost apocalyptic display of red and purple at different times until it produced what looks to me almost like a mushroom cloud. It slowly then began to fragment into ragged streams of ghost-like clouds with the intense brilliance of the stars in between. / And with this gift the most exquisite solitude – not another soul did I see.
A place where only eagles can find a way out… Matte painting. —-—-—-—-—-—— /
The camera really started to get pushed here, but the ISO performance on the new 5D is awesome… This is the line that produced all the damage in Bogabilla, Goondiwindi and the Gold Coast. Was certainly a long day, sat in the Sun for 6 hours for the cap to finally break from the outflow rush of the storms further west battling flies! (29/12/08)
A line of storms finally got organised on the Downs and gave some nice lightning strikes
The moral of this story is that if one concerns oneself only with teacups, one shall never again give a damn whether the glass is half empty, half full, or halfway to mexico.

I went down to the crossroads, / Fell down on my knees. / Down to the crossroads, / Fell down on my knees. / Asked the Lord above for mercy, / “Take me, if you please.” Excerpt from Robert Johnson”s Crossroad Blues Started with a basic photo of a road and added the storm with a photo of a cloud I took and build on that photo with brushes and blurs and film grain, added photos of a hat, cats, chickens and a house and blended these with the backgrounds, detailed with brushes and layer effects.
Taken during the same storm chase as Umina Beach Storm. I had only JUST recieved my New Nikon D300 and I had the chance to give it a good run. This shot was taken with the 70-200 VR lens set at 70mm. The storm was a good 10km away and it was moving slowly across Pittwater and was an easy target from Umina beach. After using the LiveView to focus I trained the camera where most of the Lightning was going off. The camera was set to f7.1 and 25 second exposure. I was so happy when the first strike went off just after I had opend the shutter, then to have a second flash a few seconds before it closed was the icing on the cake. The cloud detail is also astounding. A storm passes out over sea, off Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. Canon 400D
One caught a few months back, and one of my favorites of the day, but for some reason I overlooked it. Was the first day I purchased my new Wide Angle lens for the 5D Mk II, full frame. I ended up buying the 16-35mm f2.8 L II, and she is a beauty! All I need now if the time to get out and capture more of the beautiful mother nature at work :) The wreck of the “SS Dicky”, at Dicky Beach, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. She isn’t looking so good these days, as the sea rips away at the remains every tide. Canon 5D Mk II, 16mm. Available very large and best viewed Large!
Had a blast this afternoon, a bunch of small cell electrical storms passed over, and there was plenty of opertunity to capture the fine displays Mother Nature put on. Lake Donella being one of my favorite places to shoot for wildlife, I thought I would try add them in too. This is only a 10 second exposure, the light was not pitch black yet, and the back lit sky was nice to add a bit of light to the scene. After this shot, the small fish in the shallows all went crazy, and I think it lightly zapped me, weird sensation. Lake Donella, Noosaville, Queensland, Australia. Canon 5D Mk II, 35mm. Available Very Large and definately best viewed large!
