During the summer North Carolina usually is hit with heavy thunderstorms and I love to sit on my roof and watch the storm get closer and closer, all the while with camera in hand hoping to catch a bolt like this. This was shot in downtown Asheboro, NC, from the roof outside my apartment window. Nikon D1H, ISO 200, B/n F/5.6-8 and B/n 4-8 sec.

This image is very symbolic to me. I was raised worshiping in a church and as I got older I started worshiping the skies. I think its all the same and I am still at one with both. This is the first time I have seen a picture of lightning that comes close to showing its three dimensional form. I was sitting in my car with the window rolled down pressing the camera against the door and holding it down with my chin. The exposure was around three or four seconds. Asheboro, NC.

I have a habit of running around in thunderstorms. Even though it does not look like it was raining, the wind and rain were howling and slapping me and my nikon silly, but it was worth every minute.
