Long exposure of moths circling some floodlights. The long exposure has captured the light trails of the moths.
A long exposure capturing the trails of moths as they circle around some floodlights
The main streets of Cairo become a hive of activity in anticipation for the celebrations at the end of Ramadan.
Looking through the bus window on the way home, I see this playful movement of light and dark shades, between leaves and branches. It is a moment to be captured. Real image with no additional painting… The light painted it on my camera’s ccd sensor! I have set the camera on manual zoom, manual speed and aperture, so that the motion can be capture on shutter release. Behind the glass window of a moving bus, I hunt for the right angle of sun and the right tree, and follow throught the target like taking an image of a sport player. All about timing and a bit of luck! Love to see critiques and comments. All welcome. Long exposure shot with my Contax G2 at a station in Birmingham UK. I hope to expand this image into a series maybe a similar shot on ever station on this line. Ambitious but I would be very happy if I had a collection of similar quality images. f16 / about 30 second exposure. / Kodak Gold 200 / Tripod mounted
I was intending to capture the light trails from the double decker bus all the way through the image – but my timing was a little off – I perhaps should have gone for a small aperture/longer shutter speed. Still, I like the effect of it ending in the middle of nowhere – it gives me the impression of “Back to the Future” – but in a double decker!

Featured in the Homepage “Wall Art” section – 2008. Light trails of the standby LED of my computer monitor’s on/off switch in the “Off” state (orange). The international symbol for an on/off switch (a broken circle with a vertical bar through the break) can be seen in bright outline. A five second exposure at macro focus distance and aperture of f/8 with smooth slow camera movement by hand produced the swirling light trails. Copyright © 2008 Brian W. Went down to the old Monash Freeway for a few light trails shots at dusk just 2 minutes from my house. I’ve always wanted to get some really cool light trails shots and this I was real happy with :) After looking at a few I wanted to do something a bit different with it. HDR done in Photomatix and went for a Direct Positive look in AdobeLightroom. Exposures were 13 seconds, 3.2 seconds and 30 seconds f 7.1 at ISO 100. Captured at around 5.00am from Westminster Bridge, it had just stopped raining and Big Ben looked beautiful. Ha ha, I’ve just gotten outta bed, and noticed that the clock actually tells the time, just after quarter past five in the morning. It was worth it though:-) LOL. Also the real name is St Stephen’s Tower, Big Ben is the Bell.
