After shooting the early light of the morning down at Cape Schanck I thought I’d take a quick shot of the sun light reflecting off the large boulders in this little cove. I love the warm colours and shapes of wet boulders in the sun. If you ever go down to this place when the tied is high and the weather a little on the wild side, the massive waves that come crashing in to this little space throw these boulders around making an awesome rumbling sound. A must see if you live close enough to the Mornington Peninsula.

Canon 10D / 17-40mmL Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Lower Antelope Canyon, called Hasdeztwazi, or “spiral rock arches” by the Navajo, is located a few kilometers away from the upper Antelope Canyon and is a more difficult hike. La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

A collaboration with Rosalie Dale (my mum!), Misty Morning was perfect for my Avalon series, I think it works perfectly for the beginning of the story… The sword in the stone – where it all began for the boy who would become King Arthur. Born at Tintagel to King Uther Pendragon and the lady Igraine but sent away to serve as a helper in another castle, the boy who would grow up to become King Arthur was raised unaware of his parents’ status. He was a natural leader, a good fighter, and was always scrupulously fair, yet modest and unassuming. One day, a mysterious magician named Merlin announced that in the woods lay a stone with a sword thrust deep into its center. He promised that whichever man could draw the sword from the stone would be crowned the next king of Britain. Men came from all over the land to try their luck with the sword in the stone. Everyone from the knights to the blacksmiths, from lords to peasant children, tried to extricate the sword. None could. Finally, young Arthur was persuaded to try. Feeling foolish, he approached the stone, shaking his head—for why should he be able to pull out the sword, when the strongest of men had failed? But to his surprise and amazement (and to everyone else’s, certainly), as he grasped the pommel of the sword, he pulled it smoothly from the stone. This young unknown boy was to be the next king! Merlin came forward and congratulated the stunned Arthur, and that is where the story of King Arthur all began—with a sword in a stone. The roadside Pearsons Lookout, on the Castlereagh Highway just south of Capertee village, gives a view over the expansive Capertee Valley / Surrounded by the wonders of World Heritage listed wilderness, the Capertee valley is the world’s second largest canyon. Capertee is 1 kilometre longer than the Grand Canyon, but not quite as deep. Sandstone cliffs dominate the escarpment, drawing down into a deep chasm carved into the environment over millions of years. With tranquil vistas and serene mountain landscapes the Capertee Valley is abundant in flora and wildlife. Under the sandstone layer stretches an enormous layer of coal and oil shale. Rising majestically out of the valley floor is a monolith in size and spectacle. The impressive peak, Pantoney’s Crown, beckons the keen walker to climb its summit. From the top a 360° panorama, of the dramatic and breathtaking valley. The Capertee valley is located in The Gardens Of Stone National Park The Blue Mountains if a World Heritage Area , a few hours by road west of Sydney and are a must when visiting Sydney. Equipment: Nikon D300, / Technique: GET UP WAY TOO EARLY take 5 bracketted images then run it through Photomatix Pro. Then tidy up image lightly in Capture NX. See Also / Grandeur /

A storm had just passed over Watkins Glen and the warm sun was braking through the misty air in the glen. Watkins Glen State Park is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York, at the southern end of Seneca Lake. This image was captured with a Canon EOS DSLR / Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens. The focal length was 21mm, ISO was set at 400 with an f/8 aperture and shutter speed of 1/30 sec.
