  • In quiet light, a golden glow / lasting a hundred perfect heartbeats… Artist’s notes: I have had the wonderful chance of seeing herons actually sunning themselves like this. In fact, there was one day that absolutely struck me with awe about the playfullness of these birds. I was working with a sheetrock crew, and the house we were at was on the banks of the Columbia river. We’d had a series of strange weather incidents in the valley, all of which flooded the river, and actually made a huge mess of it with countless trees/logs, branches, etc. being swept down the mountains and into the water. So for a couple of days, there was an endless log jam floating down the river. I was taking a break at the house during one of those days, and noticed herons standing on the logs floating down the river. They had their wings held out like in my picture above, and they were facing the sun. They would float down just so far, then turn and fly back up river. Next thing you know…here they’d come again… on a new log. All day long these herons kept repeating that cycle, catching rides on the logs while they could…and sunning themselves in the process. I thought that was so interesting and cool. Plus, I love herons anyway…so, it just seemed fitting to add one to this piece. :) (Original, 11×17 300dpi) / FULL VIEW RECOMMENDED* —-—- Stock Credits: model: mjranum-stock http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/art/Little-Black-Goth-5-59785430 / Boat and water: sxc.hu http://www.sxc.hu/photo/937674 / wing brushes: faeth-design http://faeth-design.deviantart.com/art/Wing-Brush-74055731 / textures: my own ©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires / My artwork and photos do not belong to the public domain

  • Last light looking across the mighty Murray River at Mannum, South Australia. A magnificent stretch of the River, and yes still with plenty of water for tourists and photographers…..

  • What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

  • A Light Unto My Path My Magical Place / Captured in Plymbridge Woods Dartmoor. / Camera: Nikon D40×18-55mm Kit Lense. Recently Featured in / / A Place Called Home Though I come from Scotland, I’m most at home on the riverbank. I just love places like this in Devon UK, where you can walk peacefully along, listening to the birds and the rippling of the water, the magical light as it streams through the leaves and lights just a small portion of your pathway. Amazing sounds and smells too, especially after rain on a warm day. So earthy…. Yes, I feel at home along the riverbank:-) Sold A Card on Wed 22nd of April 2009. After an operation to remove skin cancer from my forehead. Ouch! that was really painful, but the sale brought a smile to my face, and that hurt again:-) LOL. Thanks to the kind person who purchased it. If you let me know, I’ll put a link in here. Bless you whoever you are. Regards, Don. Captured in Plymbridge Woods Dartmoor, near Plymouth, Devon. / / This picture is one is a series looking at light and shade. I love the way the light shines on the pathway by the riverside and in the distant trees. It reminded me of how God directs us through life, He chooses not to illuminate the whole of our lives, but to direct us little by little bit by bit, so that our trust in in Him alone. The verse of Scripture that sprang to mind was, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. You can trust God’s Word to guide you through life. Hope you enjoy; A Light unto my path.

  • Full view please :) Delighted to collaborate once again with my favourite poet girlinthestars. Amy and I really love inspiring one and other. She has an amazing collection of poems, please check them out. Here is Remembering How To Breathe In time, they say / But I think that it’s their time / They’re speaking of It’s fine, I reply / But that’s just so / They’ll let me be I’ve lied upon fevered bark / Flying the ribbon of our eternity / Watching the curve of us / Intertwine the trees / Coloring the breeze, baby blue / It kidnaps my lonely / And nestles me, secure with you As they all declare Don’t look back / Don’t look forward / Just stay still / To count your blessings / Don’t cry now / Don’t cry later / Wash it all away / Think not on your regret / But on who you’ve never met Sometimes the heart thinks it has moved on / But it’s wrong / Oh, it’s wrong / It’s just occupied with something else So if you find yourself alone / City lights, dying down / The memory of her, slinking under your door / You may rest, listening for nothing / And then hear a familiar something It is only me Reciting the riddle of your leaving / Breaking the fragments of you, smaller / As my unwillingness compromises to try And so remembering how to breathe… I sigh ..::Stock Photo Credit::.. / Model / River background / River foreground / Woods / Butterflies If you like this piece, please check out: / / /

  • WHat particularly drew me to this scene were the patterns of light and shadow on the rocks and leaves. Taken on an Autumn afternoon in Jacob’s Fork River, South Mountain State Park, NC. Figuring out a way to get from one slippery and mossy rock to another in order to take the photo was a real challenge too-especially carrying tripod and camera equipment. / Nikon D50, 42mm,F22 ,2 sec / viewed 937 times as of 11/06/09 / /

  • My Website River of Dreams In the middle of the night / I go walking in my sleep / From the mountains of faith / To the river so deep / I must be looking for something / Something sacred I lost / But the river is wide / And its too hard to cross And even though I know the river is wide / I walk down every evening and stand on the shore / I try to cross to the opposite side / So I can finally find what Ive been looking for In the middle of the night / I go walking in my sleep / Through the valley of fear / To a river so deep / Im a searcher for something / Taken out of my soul / Something Id never lose / Something somebody stole I dont know why I go walking at night / But now Im tired and I dont wanna walk anymore / Hope it doesnt take the rest of my life / Until I find what it is Ive been looking for In the middle of the night / I go walking in my sleep / Through the jungle of doubt / To the river so deep / I know Im searching for something / Something so undefined / That it can only be seen / By the eyes of the blind / In the middle of the night Im not sure about a life after this / God knows Ive never been a spiritual man / Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river / That is running to the promised land In the middle of the night / I go walking in my sleep / Through the desert of truth / To the river so deep / We all end in the ocean / We all start in the streams / We’re all carried along / By the river of dreams / In the middle of the night Billy Joel
