This was taken near Wandin East at the back of the Dandenong Ranges. I was driving around through the mist and got lost. As i was coming around a bend I looked out and saw this.

This is again, from a drive through the back roads of the Dandenong ranges in Victoria. I was just driving around and stopping to photograph things that caught me eye (I wound up lost too). This is a plot of land behind a farmhouse near Seville.

Shot this back in November, 2004, when the grass was much greener, and there was water in the dam. There’s only been water in that dam one other time since then, and it lasted around 6 weeks….this is a nice reminder of what we used to have…. Sold this a number of times pre-redbubble, mostly A3 size, and it won me a $1500 prize from the Brisbane City Council, as well the John Herbert medal at APSCON 2005, and also a number of other smaller prizes. This was sold december 2008 on redbubble as a matted print. Dawn over Loch Voil, (outside Balquidder, Scotland) This is the 6th in a series of 8 images taken that morning (note 5 preceding starting with ‘first light’) taken with my brandnew and very first point and shoot digi camera (a fujifinepix a500) ‘dawn mist’ and is followed by ‘dawn mist rising’ taken just after this one with the frost still on the ground… Then some hours later this lucky shot from a layby ‘mirror calm scottish loch’ / / 5 earlier images are ; / ‘first light’: ‘early mist’: ‘blanket mist’: ‘mist tree’: and ‘tree light’:

A collaboration with Rosalie Dale (my mum!), Misty Morning was perfect for my Avalon series, I think it works perfectly for the beginning of the story… The sword in the stone – where it all began for the boy who would become King Arthur. Born at Tintagel to King Uther Pendragon and the lady Igraine but sent away to serve as a helper in another castle, the boy who would grow up to become King Arthur was raised unaware of his parents’ status. He was a natural leader, a good fighter, and was always scrupulously fair, yet modest and unassuming. One day, a mysterious magician named Merlin announced that in the woods lay a stone with a sword thrust deep into its center. He promised that whichever man could draw the sword from the stone would be crowned the next king of Britain. Men came from all over the land to try their luck with the sword in the stone. Everyone from the knights to the blacksmiths, from lords to peasant children, tried to extricate the sword. None could. Finally, young Arthur was persuaded to try. Feeling foolish, he approached the stone, shaking his head—for why should he be able to pull out the sword, when the strongest of men had failed? But to his surprise and amazement (and to everyone else’s, certainly), as he grasped the pommel of the sword, he pulled it smoothly from the stone. This young unknown boy was to be the next king! Merlin came forward and congratulated the stunned Arthur, and that is where the story of King Arthur all began—with a sword in a stone. Caught ‘up the sware’ (a local viewpoint) at dawn yesterday ( 23/9/08) as the sun rose over the tweed valley just outside Peebles, scottish borders. An especially heartwarming sight after the wet grey summer we’ve had … and it’s straight from my Nikon 4800 coolpix compact camera, untouched. ;))) See also mist in the valley taken at the same time ! and also front row seat cheers all / ding / :))

Today I ventured again into the blue forest in the early-morning mist, so full of unforseeable dangers and adventures. It proved to be another lucky day – all monsters had taken a day off!, and so I came home with a load of worthwhile pictures, happy that I had managed again to get up and out so early. To say the truth, I had to give myself a good push first, but when I looked out of the window and saw the mist, the blue world outside lured me irresistably to get on my bike again.
