  • paper collage 28” x 22” Fall 2004 I arrived at the title for this piece of artwork when I imagined what explorers might have named this rock formation and used the landmark to navigate their way home. One of my purest compositions, this work was a departure from my early use of photographs in their original context in order to expand creativity. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The materials used in this work were derived from various magazines, perhaps including, but not exclusive to; National Geographic, National Geographic Travel, Architectural Digest, Outside, Smithsonian, In Style, Playboy, Transworld, Reader’s Digest, Sailing, Sports Illustrated, Field & Stream, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Skateboarder. I have altered, rearranged, and used the fragments of photographs and advertisements published in these magazines in a way inconsistent with their original context so that my derivative works do not infringe on any copyright. However, on the off chance that anyone recognizes any photograph fragments I have used in my work let me know so i can credit it properly. Thanks.

  • St. Simons Island Light is a lighthouse near the entrance to St. Simons Sound in United States Coast Guard district number 7. It is 104 feet (32 m) tall and uses a third order fresnel lens. The light keeper’s residence is a two-story Victorian brick structure. The original octagonal lighthouse was established in 1811, but destroyed in 1861 during the Civil War by Confederate forces to prevent its use by Union forces. A replacement was completed in 1872, electrified in 1934, automated in 1954, and is still operational. The current structure is an active lighthouse for navigational purposes and a museum. It is on lease from the United States Coast Guard to the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and is open to the public. St Simons Light is located within the town of St Simons Georgia USA.
