  • Old concrete and steel lighthouse in the middle of an estuary

  • This is another case of right place right time. I normally check the tides to see where they will be at sunrise and sunset, but as my fiance and I were staying near Geelong for a few days, I didn’t bring a tide chart with me and so I had to take guesses as to where it would likely be. Anyway, at the last minute I decided to head down to Point Lonsdale to take a few shots of the lighthouse and to my delight the tide was out and slowly creeping in. By the time I finished shooting, I was walking through water to get back to the shore.

  • A trio of boulders on Indian Beach surrounded by the seas of the incoming tide as the sun sets over the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. I arrived with another photographer to catch the sunset. It was raining, he left while I slipped on my rainjacket and was able to catch the spetacular colors of this sunset.

  • Like an obsidian butterfly, this lighthouse cuts into the early morning light, and is mirrored by the deadly calm of a winter morning sea.

  • Jervis Bay, NSW

  • Lighthouse at New Brighton / The foundation stone of the new lighthouse was laid on 8th June 1827 by Thomas Littledale, Mayor of Liverpool. It was designed on the lines of Eddystone by Mr. Foster and built of marble rock from Anglesey by Tomkinson & Company. It rises 90 feet above the rocks and is considered to be a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The granite cost 1/6d a cubic foot. Each piece of stone is interlocked into the next. The whole stonework, when finished , was coated with what is known as “Puzzellani” a volcanic substance from Mount Etna which, with age, becomes rock hard. The first 45 feet is solid. A spiral staircase leads to where the keeper lived and then on to the lantern house. The revolving light was said to be the first in the country. It cost £27,500 to construct.
