This shot has a bit of a story behind it, I was with a group of fellow photographers on what we call a Ferry Hop expedition. Basically we spend the day or most of it, riding the Sydney Ferries to different destinations taking photos on board and where ever we disembark. On this particular outing a few of my fellow photographers and I decided to issue a challenge, walk up to perfect strangers and ask for to take their photo. This was only the second person I ask after the challenge was issued. This lovely gentleman had a great face, a lovely white and gray beard and looked just the part for a nautical theme. As it happens when I approached him, we were nearing a replica tall ship and the Darling Harbour light house (scene in the background). Well all the elements just fell into place, and I only took two shots but I knew I had bag a great image, I thanked the Sea Captain as I’ve now called him, showed him the image and let him travel the rest of the trip in peace. I’m considering entering this in the portrait section of the Real Photography compeition, while it may be a little unconventional, it’s one of my favourite portraits (and most the others my wife won’t let me post as they are pictures of her).

View looking up the stairwell of the Point Hicks lighthouse, Croajingolong National Park. This lighthouse is immaculate and has been well looked after. It was named after Leutenant HICKS who was the first person to site this part of Australia during Captain Cooks voyage. They continued up the East coast of Australia eventually landing at the town called Seventeen Seventy. / Thankyou very much to the person who purchased my image as a card! You have made me very happy!!!! :D

A bit of sneaker wave caught me by surprise as it suddenly swept over the 2 rocks in front of me as the tides came in at sunset near Ecola Beach. Terrible Tillie, also know as the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse hides on the horizon

A trio of boulders on Indian Beach surrounded by the seas of the incoming tide as the sun sets over the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse. I arrived with another photographer to catch the sunset. It was raining, he left while I slipped on my rainjacket and was able to catch the spetacular colors of this sunset.

Taken in the bush near Alice Springs. Waiting for the sun to come up and saw this dead tree and just had to take a shot with all the colours behind it.

Beautiful image of the Whalehead Hunt Club in Currituck, North Carolina. Currituck lighthouse on the left, active Osprey’s nest on far left chimney. I currently consider this my “masterpiece”, the colors, the sky, the reflection, the fact that the lighthouse is also visible, etc. HDR image of multiple bracketed images merged into one. Click on the thumbnail below for a view of the back porch / Sadly, just went down there after Hurricane Noel (11/3/07) and the Osprey’s Nest is no longer there, as seen by clicking here: / HDR Images / Prague Images / Aviation Related Images

I took this shot of a very hazardous stretch of coastline on the very southern tip of Newfoundland just below a lighthouse. The winds were so high that day and the sea was whipped into such a boiling cauldron, my imagination was taken away. As I stood there and watched I could almost visualize a ghost ship emerging from the fog, the lighthouse that stood just above me was blowing its foghorn which added a sense of eerieness to the already somber scene. The winds lashed at me attempting to pluck me into the sea as a offering of peace for disturbing this epic battle between land and sea. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /
