An Interview with ScarlettCat Following from the chain of interviews from this thread, I decided to tag ScarlettCat! I love ScarlettCat’s illustrative style! ScarlettCat (Kate Lightfoot), is famously known for her subtle, beautiful drawings and paintings of quirky, gorgeous and fashionable, big-eyed, flirty girls. ScarlettCat’s drawings and paintings are created on natural surfaces, with minimal colour. Colour emphasis within her work are on the expression of her illustrated girls and on other complimentary shapes within the composition of her work. How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life? It makes me one hell of a gift wrapper, it means I get very little sleep, it makes me spend half of my pay packet on art and design books and fashion magazines. It means I find inspiration in everything and maybe look at things a little differently – I mean it’s never just a tree is it? It’s always a potential painting, or a pattern in the next piece of art you produce! I work in advertising, so my day job is in a creative field too. I am lucky enough to be constantly surrounded by creative people who see things in a different light and love to play with ideas, images and words. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on RedBubble particularly special or meaningful. Actually, it’s this one! RedBubble has made me feel like I am part of a community. I am more active within this community. I have also been obsessing with checking out all the great artists here. At RedBubble, I have ended up with a massive list of favourites. Great idea! Show & tell us about five works on RedBubble that have moved or inspired you. 1. Bubble Doll – Clutter my Heart with Toxic Skulls / I love the unique use of a graphic image to create another graphic image. It is not just cute, it is clever. I also adore the title. It is so much fun! 2. Douzy – Blue Gaze / OK, I will admit it. I do love kittens, and boy this is an adorable shot. I love the focus on that little blue eye. This is a great composition which seems to capture the essence of ‘kitten’, that single minded stare. 3. Bec Winnel – Gisele / Bec is a wonderful artist and I have enjoyed watching her work develop. This piece is just stunning. I particularly love the pattern in the hat and those gorgeous soft greens, and the way she lets the image blend into nothing. It has a dreamy feel to it. 4. Skaffs – Untitled / Skaffs’ girls are so adorable and I love the simplicity of this piece. Like everyone, I love to see something new and the mooses (what is the plural for a moose?!) were something I hadn’t seen in art before. While everyone else is drawing a reindeer, Skaffs did something a little different and executed it beautifully. 5. Phresha – Balloons make me crazy!! / I love illustrations on a brown paper background and this is a really energetic piece. It is fun. I love the use of black, white and brown. Those balloon strings give them so much bounce!
The beauty of Alberta, Canada Lyrics by Gordon Lightfoot: / Oh the prairie lights are burnin’ bright / The chinook wind is a-movin’ in / Tomorrow night I’ll be Alberta bound / Though I’ve done the best I could / My old luck ain’t been so good and / Tomorrow night I’ll be Alberta bound / No one-eyed man could e’er forget / The rocky mountain sunset / It’s a pleasure just to be Alberta bound / I long to see my next of kin / To know what kind of shape they’re in / Tomorrow night I’ll be Alberta bound / Alberta bound, Alberta bound / It’s good to be Alberta bound / Alberta bound, Alberta bound / It’s good to be Alberta bound Oh the skyline of Toronto / Is somethin’ you’ll get onto / But they say you’ve got to live there for a while / And if you got the money / You can get yourself a honey / A written guarantee ta make you smile / But it’s snowin’ in the city / And the streets and brown and gritty / And I know there’s pretty girls all over town / But they never seem ta find me / And the one I left behind me / Is the reason that I’ll be Alberta bound Alberta bound, Alberta bound / It’s good to be Alberta bound / Alberta bound, Alberta bound / It’s good to be Alberta bound / It’s good to be Alberta bound
Rosie was based on a picture of Zooey Deschanel – she was doing that super-flirty “batter your eyelids while glancing over your shoulder” pose. I adore the roses and peonies that surround her…and the little extra adornment that most people don’t notice. ;) ..................................♥ the fine print ♥…................................ This is my next exhibition and it is for one night only. Would love for anyone to come down and see my original artwork and to say hi! The little media release reads… “‘Sugar & Spice And All Things Nice’ That’s what this show is made of. Bec Winnel (MyCharlieGirl)and Kate Lightfoot (Scarlett) share a passion to send a little love and beauty back into the world through their art. And that’s precisely what their upcoming exhibition, Sugar & Spice And All Things Nice, will do. Bec’s dreamy, soft and impossibly delicate beauties are inspired by modern fashion, strong women and a touch of nostalgia. Scarlett’s flirty, quirky big eyed girls are adorned with flowers and feathers, tattoos and teacups. So Sugar & Spice up your Valentine’s night with some sweet feminine art. 14 FEBRUARY 09 6PM ONE NIGHT ONLY – IN THE YARD AT 696 – 696 SYDNEY RD, BRUNSWICK” I cant seem to get my image of the flyer to appear in this journal post, so here is the link to the flyer…. http://mycharliegirl.blogspot.com/2009/01/sugar-spice.html Here is the Facebook event link…. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=47937704225&ref=mf Cheers, / Bec / x
A Sally Lightfoot Crab in the Galapagos Islands relaxing on some sea moss. Note: Sally Light Foot Crabs are very, very colorful. They are mostly red but they also have light blue bellies.
I’ve always loved nature and was a big fan of the BugCatcher toy – naturally, I always let my little friends go at the end of the day. This little lady, in her vintage lace skirt, has enlisted the help of a glow worm to make an old fashioned lamp.
The early bird catches the worm – but this one may have caught more than he bargained for.
What’s not to love about turtles? They’re sweet and slow and gentle, and those darling shells are so pretty. Actually I’m pretty sure this one’s a tortoise, but ‘Tortoise Garden’ simple didn’t have the right ring to it – forgive me for my taxonomic faux pas! Graphite, coloured pencil and gouache on mountboard.
When I was little and my family was gardening I’d always take it upon myself to rescue the snails. Instead of squashing them, I’d just sneak them into another part of the garden. Go snails! Graphite, coloured pencil and gouache on mountboard.

Two little cottontails live in my back yard. Sometimes they let me get close enough for a shot. I have to chuckle when I see them “playing statue”, thinking they are invisible. / RedBubble Album: Wildlife Of The Great Basin Canon 350D EOS / Sigma 75/300mm
A Sally lightfoot crab appears astonished to come across a Galapagos Penguin. These Penguins are the most northly found and only survive due to the cool waters flowing around these islands.
