This is a collaborative transatlantic entry between myself and the incredibly talented and totally awesome billyboy in Belgium for RedBubbles Gaia – The Living Planet competition. Now, I’m not a religious person, but I wanted to illustrate by using billyboys Noah’s Ark image that if we dont start taking care of this planet we are living on I truly / believe we will be in for a disaster of biblical proportions. All that is beautiful and wondrous will simply disappear… like so many ephemeral bubbles. We are all interconnected, and we must find our harmony with Gaia, or risk losing it all. Many thanks to billyboy for sharing my vision, and giving so generously of his time, blood, tears and love to bring this vision into glorious life. Concept: Rhana / Background artwork: Billyboy / Art within the bubbles: Rhana / Bubble creation: Billyboy / Design: Rhana / Title Inspiration: Billyboy For those interested in buying the totally hawt tee of this image its now available over at billyboys place. Wash away my sins…and help me forget, for it hurts too much without you… My first attempt at photomanipulation using stock. The background is all mine though. Gotta love Michigan summer storms! Many thanks to Geoff Coleman for graciously lending me his lightening bolt to create this image. He hasn’t seen it yet so I hope he likes it! The highway image was taken on our trek across the Nullabor Plain when we moved from WA to Tasmania, on the part where there is not one single bend in the road for 100km’s… or is it 100miles? Oops… I forget, nevermind, I am sure someone will let me know =) It’s a bloody long stretch of straight road anyways ;) Stormchaser I no longer hide under the bed =)

Taken just after sunset, on March 25th 2009, in Berowra NSW Australia. This storm cell moved from West in the Blue mountains in a Easterly direction, just to the South of me, so I was able to watch it track from the mountains across to Sydney. The lightening was amazing, what would start as a flicker would then continue to branch out across the cloud, not going downwards as usual, it appeared to start at the bottom of the cloud and spread like tentacles across the storm cell. Canon 5D / ISO – 50 / f/5.6 / 8s / 22mm focal length Wikipaedia: / Another terminology used for cloud-cloud or cloud-cloud-ground lightning is “Anvil Crawler”, due to the habit of the charge typically originating from beneath or within the anvil and scrambling through the upper cloud layers of a thunderstorm, normally generating multiple branch strokes which are dramatic to witness. These are usually seen as a thunderstorm passes over the observer or begins to decay. The most vivid crawler behaviour occurs in well developed thunderstorms that feature extensive rear anvil shearing. /

This was my first attempt at lightening. I quickly learned that this is an artform all on its own. I thought I had about 50 great shots. When I got home and checked everything out – I had just TWO shots that showed any lightening – this is one of them! I have a question: Why do my lightening shots appear grainy. I need help in knowing what settings I should use for this specialty.
In the Tarantula Nebula, there is a planet just outside the orbit of the gas giant “Talon”.The planet is known by surfers across the Galaxy as “Surfer-girl’s Dream” discovered by a young lady who surfed it alone for many years before opening it up to other surfers. When Talon rises the tides are huge, waves have being measured exceeding 120 meters,a long pipe run can last for up to 5 hours,so pack a lunch. Here we see the lady herself surfing what she named the “Vortex”.
Taken in the Hunter Valley NSW, last year, this storm was predominantly electrical, hardly any rain. This bolt of lightening was less than a kilometre away. I was under cover, so reasonably safe at the time.
