Angler fish really are quite remarkable creatures! They live in the deep deep sea, further down than the light can reach, so to lure their prey in total darkness, they have rigged up a system of light emitting devices. They are not turned on here (as he is in the light, and they use up a lot of power so he only turns them on when he is hungry). Watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte on canvas.

New title ideas anybody? Canon 450D / F-stop: 4.5 (-0.3 exposure bias) / Exposure time: 1/25 sec. / ISO-speed: 200 / Focal length: 30mm Cross-processed on photoshop CS3 and I added some noise. Oh yeah, nooise. Basically, I was like, hitting walls all over the place – metaphorically and physically – so my dear Andy set me a challenge to take a self-portrait of myself using one prop (I kinda pushed that a bit..) that reflected how I felt. / I think I like it. / Can I point out that the focus on my face in the negative was deliberate and not a fluke? Quite pleased about that. / A friend thinks this is just TOO out of focus, but I originally thought that just reflected how out of focus I felt. Help me out here – what do you think? The wild lands are a real place near here. An actual geographical location that I used to spend some time. We discovered it quite by accident, or by trespassing, whatever one wants to call it, and its location is known to only me and a few of my friends… but anyhoo, its a crazy spot, an oasis of absolute emptiness and a forgotten island of grassland in a sea of sand, with nothing but unbeaten paths leading to it. It covers an immense area and it always felt to me like no one owned an ounce of it, even though I knew someone must, this is Kansas after all, there is no public land. The days of being able to spend away the hours there are long past, and I hadn’t thought about the wild lands in years until I had a dream a couple nights ago about these giants walking around out there at dusk. Odd. Hope you dig it.

1st I need to give credit where credit is due, I saw the Simpson’s yesterday and it was the one where homer invents things, he went to the Thomas Edison museum and there in the gift shop was a tshirt with a light bulb saying ‘screw this’. So thats where the idea came from. I love homer! wahoo

More light painting… this one was more difficult than the others to make, but I’m happy enough with it at the moment… may upload a better one if I make one later. Comments/critiques always welcome. I’d rather get honest feedback than positive comments, although they can be one in the same =)
