  • This was one of the most bizzare natural occurences ive seen. On a day skiing at Big Mountain, Montana, USA, there was a lot of ice crystals floating in the air at the top of the mountain, like skiing thru bubbling champagne or something! in one particular area, the sun reflected of these crystals creating a reflection of the sun down in the trees. amazing day. more pics to come.

  • Click Here / Upper Antelope Canyon – USA Tour 2008 The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse’ bighanilini, which means “the place where water runs through rocks.” Upper Antelope is at about 4,000 feet in elevation and the canyon walls rise 120 feet above the stream bed. Though dry most of the year, Antelope Canyon runs, and sometimes floods, with water after rains. It is the water, slowly wearing away the sandstone grain by grain, that has formed the beautiful and graceful curves in the rock. Wind has also played a role in sculpting this fantastic canyon. • This is a collaboration with Bruce Dickson. Bruce is a friend and was an important mentor of mine when we were both involved in the publishing and community arts scenes in Brisbane in the 1980s. • “Prayer” was featured in the groups / Statues and Such / Prize Challenges!! * / *Core [C.O.R.E] / and First Things 572 views, 15 favoritings (10 November 2009) The photo of this marvellous statue was taken in the Bell Tower of the Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove, Orange County, California. This is a small circular prayer chapel in which you find a ring of 33 marble pillars, lining the wall… (33 for the years that Christ lived – I found out on the Internet). In the center you find a prayer altar with this rotating acrylic sculpture of Christ. There is a light that comes up through the sculpture, and at some angles it breaks into all the colors of the rainbow. Canon PowerShot S5 IS, 1/15 s, f/2.7, f/2.7

  • Sedona, Arizona, USA 2008 Was so focussed on getting to this river before sunset , such a rushed hiked that I lost my bearings on the return trip and nearly spent the night out here !! Was rather daunting but incredibly beautiful nonetheless. I now make sure I have plenty of time either way, perhaps I should invest in a compass and a star chart LOL

  • Nature makes canyons dark – man makes them light. New York City 2009 Dedicated to all of those that miss being there.

  • Calligraphy (from Greek κάλλος kallos “beauty” + γραφή graphẽ “writing”) is a type of visual art. It is often called the art of writing (Mediavilla 1996: 17). A contemporary definition of calligraphic practice is “the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner” (Mediavilla 1996: 18). The story of writing is one of aesthetic evolution framed within the technical skills, transmission speed(s) and materials limitations of a person, time and place (Diringer 1968: 441). A style of writing is described as a script, hand or alphabet (Fraser & Kwiatkowski 2006; Johnston 1909: Plate 6). Nikon D50 / Nikkor 70-300 VR

  • A flight to Denver Colorado, a 5 hour drive to Togwotee Mountain Pass, USA at an altitude of 9767ft made for some spectacular scenary, but also made for the worst altitude sickness EVER. One by one our party fell ill, only I remained standing. I went out on Christmas Day, took various shots including this one from the car, I also took a video diary of the trip for everyone in bed. I should really dig it out as I remember they wern’t happy with my jolly commentary. Only after I got stuck in the snow did I begin to feel exceptionally ill. The trip was immediately cut short. I missed out on the Devils Tower Wyoming and Mount Rushmore. Dammit. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 10D, 70-200mm at 135mm, f/9.5, 1/90 sec, ISO 200. No filters used and mounted on the car door. A small amount of dust and scratches removed in photoshop. This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.

  • Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Pretty much a tourist snapshot of the Falls, which I thought I would share with you ! / A rather crowded place, justifiably so, who wouldn’t want to see this sight ? The Canyon has some amazing colours, and I found the best time was towards evening to be viewed at it’s best. The vertiginous slopes are very loose and crumbly, and I wondered how those trees maintain their perilous foothold !! Shot on a Canon EOS 40D, polariser, tripod, f22, 1/3 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour adjustments. • At 93 feet high, Yaquina Head Lighthouse is Oregon’s tallest lighthouse. The tower, made from 370,000 bricks from San Francisco, is double walled for insulation and dampness protection. One story, which has circulated for years, tells of a workman falling from the scaffolding into the hallow between the masonry walls where his body could not be retrieved. A fine story, and perhaps an explanation for the station’s purported ghost, but records show no workers were killed during construction. Strong winds did blow one worker off the cliff. Amazingly, his oils skins acted somewhat like a parachute and he only received minor injuries. The lighting of the first order Fresnel lens was delayed due to parts of the lantern somehow being lost in transit. Finally, after almost two years of toil, the light shone for the first time on August 20, 1873.
