  • He really had a way of making it feel like he was performing to just me… and 30,000 of my closest friends…

  • The stage is set at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre!

  • Straight from Tokyo to the Queenscliff Music Festival in southern Victoria, Australia, “The Bawdies” are influenced by artists like Buddy Holly, The Beetles, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, etc. They have a huge amount of entertainment value, personality and energy on stage. Language barriers are not a problem, these guys had the crowd jumping and screaming from the moment they announced “Are you ready?!!” in their heavy accents. To hear them, check out www.myspace.com/thebawdies but to truely appreciate them I highly recommend seeing these guys live on stage!

  • New on the scene, “Bluejuice” from Sydney sure have the kids hopping! This band, who released a debut album about a year ago with it’s single reaching No.11 on Triple J’s Hottest 100, was something to stick around for. My expectations grew higher while I watched the security staff struggling to hold off the under agers who were trying every trick in the book to get in to see Bluejuice’s live performance at this year’s Queenscliff Music Festival. Those kids were onto something, these guys (with two main vocalists!) are not to be missed if your thing is punk/rock/hip hop and outrageous antics – not for the faint hearted! • November 26, 2008 / Dallas, TX @ Granada Theatre I’m trying to open photoshop so I can just get the mike stand out of the middle of the picture

  • My other favourite group at this year’s Queenscliff Music Festival hailed from Byron Bay. These guys are keeping Aussie Rock alive, but giving it a kick up the proverbial as well with some progressive roots sounds. They shift with ease through raw and dirty to melodic and reflective. I’ve always liked a good three piece, all members have to be more than good to make it work. Pictured: Marshall O’Kell – lead vocal, lead guitar, slide guitar. Marshall And The Fro

  • Ok so I’ve decided to go back to the creepy and wonderful stage of my photography. Simply because I have fun setting these shots up. Any way this was a shot at sunrise where the room was dark and the outside was light. Shot at an extremely fast shutter speed to get the colours. Hope you all like the shot.

  • Stage lighting can be a headache when photograhing stage performances – especially in amateurish set ups where the lights simply change colour from red to blue to yellow at random, without any definite purpose. On the rare occasion, however, senseless lighting produces arguably “good” results – as in this situation where the guitarist and drummer are lit differently, producing the illusion that one is real while the other, unreal. __ The Esplanade. • Another pic of my little cousin :)

  • This is the only Big Day Out photo I am going to upload. My concert photography dreams took a blow when I realised that it’s really hard to jump up and down under the influence of alcohol etc, while screaming and holding a bloody great camera. Stuff it, I’ll stick to sports and portraits I think hehe. Oh, the reason I uploaded this one is because this band was, IMO, the most impressive on the day, and I reckon there’d be a few thousand who agreed with me. Tiki Taane headed the highly successful Salmonella Dub and has been involved with Conchord Dawn (note: link has explicit lyrics) but now he’s joined forces with some of Shapeshifter to produce Tiki Live – an amazing show that highlights his Maori heritage with the eerie and powerful Tangaroa, a bit of clever conch playing and very heavy bass and beats. Very quick You Tube promo if you can’t be bothered with the other links ;o)

  • The Duke Spirit guitarist playing at a gig at the East Brunswick Club on Friday 27 March.

  • With reference to the moment when Bob Dylan went electric, this is the Hounds of Love at their recent concert in the Duchess in York with their silent band member, the Mac. Proceeds from any sales will be split with the band.

  • Paul is a good friend and bandmate in the Humperheads. We’re usually on opposite sides of the stage so seeing and hearing each other is hit-and-miss from time to time. This was miss time. The stage was TINY but yet it seemed to swallow up every word either spoken or sung at my end of the stage. Getting the hang of hearing was tough for all of us but here you can see someone with that “huh” look of ‘what the hell…?’ Sometimes, it happens during songs and I usually can’t stop laughing at the results. This time it happened before we started so luck was dripping all over us. However, I can’t see in this sort of light. There we have a double threat: blind and deaf musicians are not all that effective. Seeing ANYONE with lights on you is hard but seeing someone bathed in colours I can’t see thru just has to look strange. My dark glasses keep it from being painful (most of the time) but this “huh” look is the one most people probably see on MY face, not Paul’s.

  • Taken from the side of the stage during their concert at Billboard in Melbourne on 17/5/09. This is singer-songwriter Will Sheff having a solo moment. I like the way you can see all the gear and guitarist Lauren Gurgiolo smiling at someone offstage.

  • Sia’s drummer’s kit…astor theatre, perth, WA. buttons

  • sia’s lighting – astor theatre, perth, WA.
