  • She woke to unexpected snow, on the morning of the the 11th month since her Mother died. It wasn’t her first snow as an orphan; it wasn’t the snow that made her cry. It was knowing all day that last year at this time, her Mother had only one month left to live. Regrets and self-recriminations and grief still so raw that it left her breathless, followed her all day long. In the early afternoon she looked outside at the sun’s weak light. It pushed its way through the tree branches and then faded, like a weary Christmas shopper too worn out from fighting through crowds, to go home. She understood that light. It was her life now, weak and pale and searching for an end. This day, anyway. Maybe tomorrow would be different. / Photoimage edited in Corel Painter Essentials and Photoshop Elements 3 /
