Although I’ve never really been a huge fan of this practice, I decided one day to photograph him doing so… just to see how well I could capture the traces of light in a dark room. Much to my surprise, I captured many interesting shapes, icons, and symbols that were created by the spinning lights. MAY 12, 1988: ON TOP OF MOUNT VACA LOOKING OVER THE TOWN OF VACAVILLE CALIFORNIA AND SACRAMENTO VALLEY TOWARDS RIO VISTA. THE LIGHTNING STORM STARTED IN THE SIERRAS AND TRAVELED ACROSS THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CASCADE MOUNTAINS TO THE NAPA VALLEY. ABOUT 20 SECONDS AFTER LEAVING MY PARKING SPOT, WHERE I TOOK THIS PHOTO FROM, DAYLIGHT HAPPENED. THE LIGHTNING STRIKE WAS SO INTENSE, THAT MY FRIEND WHO WAS WITH ME AND JUST HAPPENED TO BE BLIND, SAID HE WAS ABLE TO SEE SOME OF THE LIGHT IN WHAT LITTLE VISSION HE HAD. AND BELIEVE ME, HE COULDN’T SEE THAT MUCH. THIS PHOTO MAKES A GREAT 20X30 TO HANG ON THE WALL, MAYBE OVER A FIREPLACE MANTLE. / LIGHTNING STRIKES LIKE THESE HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE OVER 10,000 DEGREES IN TEMPERATURE AT THE CORE OF THE STRIKE, WHICH MIGHT ONLY BE ONE INCH IN DIAMETER. THIS SHOT WAS A MULTIPLE EXPOSURE SHOT OF 4 EXPOSURES OF 20 SECONDS EACH WITH A CABLE SHUTTER RELEASE ON A TRIPOD. THE CAMERA WAS A CANON EOS 620 WITH THE SHUTTER SET ON THE B SETTING AND THE F STOP WAS SET AT FF:22, SO I WOULDN’T OVER EXPOSE THE CITY LIGHTS. TO GIVE THIS IMAGE SOME SORT OF SCALE, THE TWO RED LIGHT TOWERS THAT ARE JUST TO RIGHT OF CENTER, THE SHORT ONE IS 1600 FEET TALL AND THE TALLEST ONE IS 2000 FEET TALL. I WAS ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN THAT IS 2800 FEET IN ALTITUDE. THOSE TWO TOWERS ARE APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING.

Land Of Pharaohs Kebab-Shop, run by Romani from Egypt and his Dutch wife Inge. Their succesfull business was approached by ‘Getaway’ Holiday and Travel program and they will be featured from September 2008. The busy couple designed and decorated this beautifull shop themselves and Romani made all the wooden furniture and some tables, which are made out of recycled teak and jarrah even have chessboards in them, so it’s great to have a game of chess and while you listen to the ‘lounge’ music you should try their ‘fresh’ kebabs, the beef&lamb souflakis are great and very affordable. And the vegetarian falafels are the best!! Super good coffee for the coffeelovers and browse through this shop . you will find ornaments, artifacts and beautifull handmade lamps, inge has her art work mainly photos enlarged on big canvas and even on postcards, and ‘everything’ is for sale! Evolution directly contradicts this law. 101 Facts & Foreknowledge Yesterday (Aug 15th at 12-1am) i was exposed to some amazing lightning. I was, a tad to afraid to set up my tripod so i used the rail. didn’t get some great shots. But it was my first time! / The day started out 90 Degrees F, no clouds in sight, at about 7PM / it got sticky w/high cloud cover…then deep and dark. Not raining here..but a great show looking out towards Redondo/Hermosa Beach. / I hate the poles andstuff, but then again..it think it adds a tad bit of something, what do you think? taken in Harbor City, Los Angeles, California

Nature put on a stunning light show on Friday 30th October over Port Phillip Bay. It went on for several hours with lightning covering almost 1/3 of the sky. This was taken from the beach at Beaumaris. Nikon D90 Sigma 10-20mm lens @ 10mm
