As we watched in awe, the aurora bourealis formation, spectacular in itself, seemed to freeze and transform into a solid form filling the northern sky. Our jaws dropped even further as alien spacecraft began emerging from the spectacular formation. Saucer, or football shaped objects began spreading through the skies above the forest from which we were watching. A terrible cold came over us, colder than the usual northern night, and even frosted the tops of the trees! I pulled my camera out of my pocket and shot this single shot before we had to run back to camp, and a warm campfire, and plot our next moves. From the radio broadcasts we were barely able to make out due to unusual radio disturbance, this same scenario was occuring around the globe in the northern most regions!

This shot was taken on an old and traditional sailing ship in the Netherlands, somewhere on the North Sea. I was lying flat on my back, pointing my camera towards the main mast of the ship for taking this shot.

I only had my 90mm with me and I was thinking, damn, I wish I have a wider lens with me. But the 90mm gave me something new rather than just another photo of the whole bridge. It’s not a great shot, it is very dark and half of the bridge is engulfed by darkness. But it was handheld at 90mm! It looks better and less dark on black, please try it! View On Black

Today, hopeful punters come here on cruise ships, to try their luck at the Melbourne Cup horse race. P&O Pacific Dawn, tied up at Station Pier, on the eve of the 2009 race, ablaze with lights.
