Taken on a beautifully lit day in Yellowstone National Park, this image is the pinnacle of my minimalist work. There’s an old saying that if you stare at something long enough you’ll begin to see what you want to. This scene, however, jumped out and knocked me over. I watched the light play through the ravines for nearly 30 minutes, captivated by the subtleties of tone and form. Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley, called the Serengeti of North America, is home to a wide variety of wildlife and scenes such as this one. If you’re ever visiting the Park, it’s a bit off from the normal ‘Loop’ of roads that make their way through the interior, but quite worth the extra hour of driving to get there. The only maintained roadway during the winter season, you’re likely to see a dozen or more wolves in the valley’s Soda Butte region, where the Druid Peak Pack reigns supreme.

I set my alarm for 4:30 AM but it didn’t go off for some reason and I ended up waking up at 5:20… So I rushed out of my campsite in Rock Creek Canyon and drove like a madman up Highway 395 to get to Convict Lake before sunrise. I made it to one of my favorite spots just as the fishermen were starting to show up. I took some photos before sunrise and got ready for the light show…
This photo was taken a little after dawn at Convict Lake in Sierra Nevada. The alpenglow was amazing and lasted for quite some time. Convict Lake is situated on the eastern side of the range which is made up of steep cliffs and very scenic vistas. Since it faces east you have to get up for the sunrise if you want to see the alpenglow. Sunset is beautiful as well but nothing compares to the beautiful reds and oranges reflecting off the stark granite.
Your light and lovely nature brings joy to all and heralds a golden dawn of love and peace in the world.
You colour the atmosphere with vibrations of peace, lightness & freedom to create a rainbow of love.
Mount Morrison is a very majestic part of the scenery at Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierras of California. The oldest rocks in the mountain range can be found there. The mountain gets its name from a famous old west shootout that happened at Convict Creek. To summarize, some outlaws broke out of prison in Carson City, Nevada and headed to this area to hide in the canyon. A posse was formed to capture them headed by Robert Morrison with their Paiute indian guide “Mono” Jim. Both were killed in the violent gun battle that ensued. Mono Jim Mountain can be seen in the foreground.
You are a light and lovely soul

We have the power to let the sun shine into our lives on every single day. It is a choice that we must make each morning, and renew whenever needed or when we feel that the rain is coming or a storm is brewing. Letting the sun in will prevent the blues and eventually chase the rain away… We have that power in us! Isn’t it wonderful? Uploaded for a textures challenge I used a candid shot of a woman watching two pelicans fly by in the distance, very early one morning. / Painted in two seagulls with some brushes I made recently. / I flipped a shot of a sunrise that I made on the same day last summer, blending in overlay mode, and adding a mask with a gradient to hide the layer diagonally from bottom right. / Then I used the plaster texture, blended in soft light mode, to make the foreground more interesting, masked it over the lady and played with the hues and saturation a bit. / Next came the splatter in multiply mode at 65% opacity. / Duplicated this to another layer on which I applied vertical grain, blurred a bit and blended in multiply again, at 57% opacity. / Finally, I added a slight vignetting effect to highlight the woman. Mount Morrison towers over Convict Lake. At dusk it is the last mountain in the canyon to give up the sun’s light. In the foreground is Mono Jim Peak. I return to this area many times every year trying to capture the beauty of every season. It is a very special place for me.
My cat Gem in the snow =] / this image reminds me so much of christmas and I laugh when I think about the cat’s reactions to the snow. Gem is a very curious cat so had to go exploring. One of my favourite images in the snow =]
