  • This was taken at one of my favourite New Forest ponds at around sunrise. It was, of course, foggy and very cold which seems to be the norm these days. If I can’t feel my feet, then it’s been a good morning. The sun was appearing and disappearing every now and again so I had to set the shot up and wait for the right moment to take the photo. I threw a stone into the water so the image had some foreground interest and it turned out pretty well IMO. The ripples add enough to the shot withiut being overdone. But it’s up to the viewer to agree or disagree with that point. I hope you like the shot and I’ll start to post more once I’ve re-processed my better photos. Thank you to everyone who’s looked at and commented on my other up-loads. Kind regards, Alan.

  • Collaboration with the brilliant Lee Burgess dancing on the cliff edge. The colour in the top cloud is the moon halo. The good news for this shot was that this lovely rockpool lined up beautifully with the moonpath. The bad news was that the rockpool was perched on the edge of a cliff and between the top of the pool and the edge of the cliff there was only an 8” sliver of rock for Lee to stand on. Plus it was blowing a gale (that blur at Lee’s back is her hair blowing in the wind and the chill factor was less than 10 degrees). All Lee had on was this strapless flimsy dress and she kept having to hop out of shot to put her coat and boots on to warm up. And then the idiot photographer would say things to her like “Can you do some rotating pirouettes?” and she had to remind him “You know I’m standing on the edge of a cliff here!” and then shed did them anyway!! It certainly helped that Lee used to be a gymnast but brave or what!! So who would like to volunteer to be my next model :-) Shot off the Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park, Sydney Australia. Here’s the other shot from the shoot. Model: Lee / Photography / Direction: Geoff Canon 1Ds MikIII / Tv: 1sec / Av: f/4 / ISO: 1600 / FL: 28mm STOP PRESS. / Catherine just wrote this beautiful poem to accompany this pic – how cool is that! dance / When darkness transcends into the silent beauty / that is night / Would you join me in the magic of a momentary / ray of light? / that holds all our dreams, our wishes, our desires / in fragility / On the cliff, the pull so strong / yet drunk with a lightness of being song / I dance / Behold, beware / only moments apart / the end, the light / where only our truth / could do it right / there where only naked surrender can be / take my hand / dance with me

  • This is my first attempt playing with food dye, water and my computer monitor as a brightly lit backdrop. See here for how I created this shot. (The stack of dvds were implemented after this shot was taken) / / This was pretty damn difficult without a tripod or assistant.. One hand holding the camera , one hand holding the dropper, full of dye. Having to get focus on the camera, hold it straight, shoot and drop the dye at once.. I need a tripod haha! / / I had heaps of fun trying to make this work though. Soon learning that dropping the dye closer to the front of the glass allowed for more clarity in the shot. / / The next step will be multiple colours, but not till a tripod is involved lol. Featured in Color & Light / Featured in Out Of The Blue / Featured in The Beginners Corner / / Slight crop of original, adjustment of brightness and contrast for colour control. / / Canon 50D / 58mm, 18 – 55 / f5, 1/320, ISO 1600 / / MCN:CRR2W-5HDN9-7U4H3

  • Round two of the Rainbow Drowning project. See here for how I created this shot. (The stack of dvds were implemented after this shot was taken) / / Was holding the camera portrait for these ones, to get a bit more depth and length in the shots. The dye squirted harder than expected, causing a fast and long rippling effect in the water. / / Loved the contrast between light and dark in these ones and the background blur too. / / Crop of original shot, with adjustment of brightness and contrast. No other enhancements to this series. Featured in The Male Photographer / / Canon 50D / 58mm, 18 – 55 / F5.6, 1/80, ISO 400 / / / / / / MCN:CW9F2-AMK6S-WPAKR

  • Rota Island / Northern Mariana Islands Here you will find palm fringed beaches with virtually no one around, unbelievable diving, pristine waters and incredible volcanic formations. Located along the Marianas Trench which is the deepest known part of the world’s oceans, and the deepest location on the surface of the Earth’s crust. / The trench is about 2,550 kilometres (1,580 mi) long but has a mean width of only 69 kilometres (43 mi). It reaches a maximum depth of about 11,034 metres (36,200 ft) at the Challenger Deep, a small slot-shaped valley in its floor, at its southern end. Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain.
