A Sunrise in the Wilderness Sunrise captured along Mt Evans, in Colorado. The pines in the background are rare Bristlecome Pines, one of the oldest living things on earth. I just had to pause, in spite of me sucking in the o2 at the elevation, and take a few shots.

When the thunder comes and you are standing at 12,000 feet, this is probably the last place you want to be. So when the thunder comes and you are the highest object in the Colorado Rockies….run!!! Lightning strikes kill people in the high country every year and needles to say I pretty much high tailed it after shooting this, back to the car as quick as I could. Loveland Pass is a Colorado landmark, and looking here you look out over the Continental Divide. It is the highest mountain Pass in the United States to be plowed and stayed open year around, as trucks carrying hazardous chemicals must cross this way instead of using the Eisenhower Tunnel. I went ahead and decided to process this in HDR using Photomatix and final output through PS CS2, the reason for the HDR was to catch the dynamic light (which seems like I am always chasing) and the drama in the clouds with the approaching thunderstorm. LucisArt used for final detail work. This shot was taken at the Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs, CO. The most amazing electrical storm came through. It was quite a ways in the distance. The cloud coverage was interesting which sat low over our heads. Lightning flashed about every three seconds. It was truly spectacular. It never rained where I was standing. Noise Reduction software applied due to the high ISO setting. I put the camera on a tripod and kept clicking. The pool house was in the foreground and Cheyenne Mountain in the background.

Mindscape is a mental or psychological scene or area of the imagination. The word is most suitable to the filed of psychology. Mindscape has two words combined in such a way that the meaning goes beyond it – Mind and Escape… It can be translated as a Mind that wants to escape or a Mind that is in route of escaping. This adventure can be in the sense of reality or in spiritual world. / Depression sufferers escape from facts, hallucinates escape from reality, psychotics and neurotics escape from many other forms of life. We usually state that they are people who require help so that they can live an ordinary life. But who is to decide what is normal and what is abnormal? If ones can see the other side of horizon, according to them they deem the facts strongly that they hold about life, oneself and reality. They believe they are the right ones who are amongst wrong people. Are you one of them? I tend to assume we all are, one way or another. What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

Had a wedding to attend a couple of weeks ago which gave me the opportunity to find a new area too shoot. So while my wife slept in I ventured up to Mt. Baker for Dawn and this was my reward. Kulshan Ridge Reflecting in the still waters of Picture Lake near Mt. Baker

When we arrived at the mountain on Friday afternoon, the temperatures were hovering at slightly above freezing and the icing on the trees and the roads was trying to decide if it wanted to refreeze or not. The winds came up … and the power to the cabin was out. It was going to be a c-c-c-coooold night if the power company couldn’t get up the mountain!! But we underestimated Valley Rural Electric … those brave darlings had our power back on within a short while, and life was good. For about 2 hours. Then just as my son was arriving and driving down our road there was a POP and a blinding flash and we were again plunged into darkness. The powerful power guys were back on the scene quickly and by the time we got back to the house after having dinner out, the electric was back and stayed back. Saturday was windy and gray with a little snow toward evening. Sunday morning broke bright and beautiful, as you see it!!! I hope you enjoy our view!!!! Now, go grab some hot cocoa (drinking chocolate to our British friends), crank up this tune … then come back and enjoy the rest of my winter-wonderland!!!!! Only levels and some shadows and highlights touched.

The roadside Pearsons Lookout, on the Castlereagh Highway just south of Capertee village, gives a view over the expansive Capertee Valley / Surrounded by the wonders of World Heritage listed wilderness, the Capertee valley is the world’s second largest canyon. Capertee is 1 kilometre longer than the Grand Canyon, but not quite as deep. Sandstone cliffs dominate the escarpment, drawing down into a deep chasm carved into the environment over millions of years. With tranquil vistas and serene mountain landscapes the Capertee Valley is abundant in flora and wildlife. Under the sandstone layer stretches an enormous layer of coal and oil shale. Rising majestically out of the valley floor is a monolith in size and spectacle. The impressive peak, Pantoney’s Crown, beckons the keen walker to climb its summit. From the top a 360° panorama, of the dramatic and breathtaking valley. The Capertee valley is located in The Gardens Of Stone National Park The Blue Mountains if a World Heritage Area , a few hours by road west of Sydney and are a must when visiting Sydney. Equipment: Nikon D300, / Technique: GET UP WAY TOO EARLY take 5 bracketted images then run it through Photomatix Pro. Then tidy up image lightly in Capture NX. See Also / Grandeur /

The road to Timna Valley Park , South of Israel, 30 km north to Red Sea From WIKI : The Park is noted for its natural sandstone formations, including King Solomon’s Pillars, the “Mushroom”, “Arches” and “the Sleeping Lion”. It includes what are believed to be the oldest Copper mines in the world, dating back to at least 4000 BC and worked almost continuously by (among others) the Egyptians, Romans, Nabateans and Ummayads. / markers to Timna Park Rock carvings, including “the Chariots”, and ancient inscriptions are visible as well as mining shafts, the remains of ancient copper furnaces and a temple dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Hathor.

It is a very old site, once occupied by a small temple dedicated to the worship of the Fates, as recorded in the rare 3rd century epigraph (walled under the northern portico of the castle). Its original religious function was soon replaced by a military function, given its strategic position. In the 13th century the castle passed from the hands of the lords of Toblino into those of the lords of Campo, who owned the castle bearing the same name in the Giudicarie (Castel Campo). Later on, the castle fell into the hands of the church of Trento (1495) and the Cardinal Bernardo Clesio had the place restored and rebuilt (1536-1537) on Renaissance lines, to become a lord´s residence: it was decorated by some of the artists working at the Magno Palazzo of the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento. The prevailing 16th century elements are due to the subsequent transformations (courtyard portico and loggia, round arches) ordered by Gian Gaudenzio Madruzzo. All that remains of the Medieval castle layout are the wall to the west, a turret to the north-west of the present enclosure and the 20 meter high cylindrical tower, which may be considered a keep, strengthening the fortifications closing the summit of the fortified rock. Lake of Toblino This valley bottom lake has marsh vegetation (in particular ) and lacustrine (a few samples of “lamineto” of the ninfea gialla type); At certain points of the shore there are willow groves. The site includes the surrounding hills, where holm oaks woods grow(Celtidi australis-Quercetum ilicis). Nikon Coolpix 990
