  • Recently emerging from a chrysalis, this Monarch really doesn’t need to know when its time to commence it’s maiden voyage; it’s instinctual. It fluttered off at 1:30 p.m. on a crisp sunny day. Godspeed my friend.

  • Three ivy leaves isolated on a white background; one pale green and fresh, one dark green and mature and one yellow and dying.

  • I took this picture in my front yard. Each year, towards the end of summer the lavender is swarming with mating Lady Bugs. Then it is swarming with brand new baby Lady Bugs. It’s a really great time for someone who adores their macro :-)

I want to create a large poster of the “Life Cycle of the Praying Mantis”, my favorite bug. It will be a collage of 6 to 8 pics from juvenile to a fresh egg case. I shot most of the images last year but could not find an egg case until a few days ago. I hope to capture a shot of the babies hatching next spring to really complete the cycle. / I took a sick day today because of oral surgery yesterday but all the meds have made my head fuzzy. I hit the wrong tabs, chose the wrong pics, performed steps in the wrong sequence. I finally have ten pics ready to assemble into an informative collage. / I have limited experience making collages, I hope it comes out right. / If this works, I have the material for other Life Cycle collages.

  • I grow Echinacea, and was struck once by seeing the flowers on the plant in the four stages of life at the same time. I photographed against a white background in natural light using my roll film camera. The result was scanned at 4000 ppi on my Nikon Coolscan V ED.

  • A Few More Days Later…......... / Withering bloom, while at first glance may not be quite as attractive as it’s younger version, possesses more color, character and experience…much like our elders.

  • A Few Days Later…...... / In full bloom, like a young adult at his/her prime in life…but still with a youthful glow.

  • On Arrival…......... / Rose bud with some petals yet to be exposed, like a child who has yet to experience life. Each day brings about another something new!

  • A monarch Butterflies are beautiful, flying insects with large scaly wings. Like all insects, they have six jointed legs, 3 body parts, a pair of antennae, compound eyes, and an exoskeleton. The three body parts are the head, thorax (the chest), and abdomen (the tail end). The four wings and the six legs of the butterfly are attached to the thorax. The thorax contains the muscles that make the legs and wings move. Butterfly Estates Gardens at Fort Myers, Florida
