  • I wanted highlight this photo because I’ve now added a link to a SLIDESHOW. I think the brave chaps deserve a round of appreciation. / ( if you click on the arrows in the bottom right hand corner of the slide show it will go to full screen) I took this using my Sigma 70-300 lens, the Scarborough lifeboat was returning from helping a surfer who had got into difficulties. The zoom lens foreshortened the photo bringing the drama of the large waves into shot, the crop was the final touch to compress the action.

  • Living by the sea, Apart from the Fire, Police, and Ambulance services. The Air Sea Rescue and the Inshore and Off shore Lifeboats are also our Emergency services. This was an exercise off Dawlish Beach, Devon. UK. / Thank you for looking.

  • Smeaton’s Tower taken from The Hoe in Plymouth UK. The stretch of water that you see going out to the breakwater and LifeBoat station is named Plymouth Sound and is why Plymouth is sometimes described as the place where you can Hear the Sea and See The Sound. See my video on YouTube

  • overhead shot of RNLI Lifeboat during an exercise.

  • whilst taken a shot of the old tenby lifeboat station, wales this seagull flew into shot

  • Driving along the quayside in Marsa, Malta, just past Bezzina’s Ship Repair Yard, I happened to spot this old Lifeboat by the side od the road. What drew me to it was not the actual boat itself but the spots of sunlight on the boat and on the rocks above it. The Caper bushes growing from crevises in the rock and hanging down added some colourful features to the scene, as did the fennel stalks pointing upwards towards the sky. On top of the boat, jutting out from the rock-face is a small niche housing a statue of the Blessed Virgin with Baby Jesus in her arms. A probable votive offering from a sailor or crew who found safety in the harbour from a violent storm or during the War.

  • The Bow of the Lizard & Cadgwith Lifeboat, on the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall. / I was lucky to get this shot, as the general public are not allowed below the viewing platform, and also had a guided tour of the boat, courtesy of the engineer Malcolm, on ‘loan’ from the Fowey Lifeboat Station, who was standing in for the regular engineer. I was also lucky enough to get the Crew Lift up and down to the station, instead of 220 steps EW, which is just as well considering my knee. / The Lifeboat is a ‘Tamar Class’ lifeboat, and more about it, and the station, can be found Here, and is always there, if you need help at sea. I left the vignetting in, which is courtesy of my rubber lens hood, as it gives it a sense of a fisheye, and helps frame the pic in the lower part. I hope you like it. / Thank you for looking. / Best viewed Large. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens.

  • This is the ramp at the Lizard RNLI Station, the ramp which this craft slides down when going to a rescue. I was very lucky to get this shot, as the general public are not allowed in this particular area of the station, but a bit of ‘blagging’ got me down onto the ramp. / Thanks for looking. / Hope you like it.

  • This is the old Lifeboat House at Lizzard Point. Cornwall, UK. The most southerly point of mainland Britain. Nearest small town Mullion, nearest large town Helston. / This cove would have been ideal for smugglers in days gone by,as they could anchor off shore and row to the cove. Through the dangerous rocks which they would know like the back of their hands. / Thank you for looking.

  • The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) Lifeboat in Weymouth Harbour from underneath The Custon House Quay.

  • I took this picture in Dec 2007 / The lifeboat is just leaving the safety of Newhaven Harbour I was on the Beach at Seaford Sailing Club some 2km away from the action. Camera Panasonic fz50 / 100 iso / f4 1/160th sec / full zoom 420mm These guys have my upmost respect / They are all volunteers, they do not get paid.

  • Rough sea and sunset. Beyond the lifeboat slipway taken in Sennen Cove Near Lands End Cornwall

  • Lerwick lifeboat on a training exercise with the rescue helicopter.

  • Here a very different shot from my forest pictures taken around Hilversum. Yesterday afternoon we had a lovely walk on the beach at Scheveningen again, when a truck with a small life-boat came along. In the Netherlands it is the Royal Dutch Sea Rescue Organisation (“Koninklijk Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij” or “KNRM”) which guards the coasts with 39 life boat stations. On this picture you see one of the smaller auxiliary boats going to sea directly from the beach at Scheveningen. Though of course these men are used to a different sort of breakers, yesterday´s relatively very small waves gave a nice splash, too. Scheveningen, 24th February 2009, 4.50 pm / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 130 mm / F 36, 1/50, ISO 400

  • The old lifeboat station at the Lizard point served the area well from 1914 till it’s closure in the early sixties, the current one is just a short way round the coast. The Lizard Point is the most Southerly point on the UK mainland and is notorious for treacherous seas, with many outcrops of jagged rocks, many ships have been wrecked at this point during a storm. Quite a contrast when we see it on such a calm and beautiful Summer’s day like I enjoyed on my recent holiday in Cornwall. • These lifeboats are part of the life saving force of the coastline around my area of Dawlish in Devon. The big one comes from Exmouth and the smaller inshore boat comes from Teignmouth. They were attending our Carnival week Air Show, and put on a display which was very spectacular. These crews deserve all the praise we can give them as they go out to sea in all weathers putting their lives at risk to save others. And when you think they dont get paid for it which makes them even more wonderful. The RNLI relies entirely on donations from the public. / The stretch of water is the English Channel, between the Exe and Teign Estuaries. Thank you for looking.
