  • “So every ending could also mean a new beginning. The creature dives in the space and eventually finds the key to a portal. It makes contact with the essence of the universe. Like a child greets its mother, the creature flies towards the essence, fusing with it and creating a new dimension where life will spread its wings. The fire of the souls that conform the main basis of existence soon might begin their journey across planets to deliver the precious spark of life. That is the final contact, which could also be the first one.” In other words (partially normal at least), this is the usual surreal space being meeting with the ‘universe’s intelligence’, its essence as I mentioned (I know, mad). Done with Photoshop, Chaoscope and a lot of editing and tests with different settings plus a dose of patience.

  • How many times have we heard our mother tell us Come on, eat it! It’s full of good things! Well, here is proof that moms are always right!   Again, this is my starting image. Please refer to Renaissance Still Life for more details on how it was made. I selected only the fruit with the elliptical marquee tool, and discarded the rest. Then I sperized with the distort filter, and scaled everything to fit into the apple.         To obtain the final image, I mostly stacked three layers of this image of a red apple ornament over the fruit, blended in screen mode in various opacities. Finally, I adjusted levels for each colour channel separately. • RB’s challenge “Substance of things not seen” inspired many questions of how to convey and/or observe what we cannot see, let alone create a piece of art. / Then, while listening to our CD player shuffle, this song played…Colors of the Wind / You think you own whatever land you land on / Earth is just a dead thing you can claim / But I know every rock and tree and creature / Has a life, has a spirit, has a name / You think the only people who are people / Are the people who look and think like you / But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger / You learn things you never knew / You never knew / Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? / Or ask the grinning bobcat why he grinned / Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains? / Can you paint with all the colors of the wind? / Can you paint with all the colors of the wind? / Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest / Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth / Come roll in all the riches all around you / And for once never wonder what they’re worth / The rainstorm and the river are my brothers / And the heron and the otter are my friends / And we are all connected to each other / In a circle in a hoop that never ends / Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? / or let the eagle tell you where hes been / can you sing with all the voices of the mountain / can you paint with all the colors of the wind / can you paint with all the colors of the wind / How high does the sycamore grow / If you cut it down, then you’ll never know / And you’ll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon / For whether we are white or copper – skinned / We just sing with all the voices of the mountain / Need to paint with all the colors of the wind / You can own the earth and still / All you’ll own is earth until / You can paint with all colors of the wind. Not leaving well enough alone, I ventured into googling and found an amazing photograph (hven.swarthmore.edu) of a Wind Bubble and began searching more of the Stellar Winds ~ this all seemed to fit, so I sketched a female figure being blown by the wind and layered it atop the Wind Bubble, editing a little more with the Redfield fractilius plug-in to bring the force of the wind alive with evidence of its power, though unseen… “Thought is the Wind, knowledge the sail, and mankind the vessel. ” August Hare

  • The motifs of SYNTHESIZED FASHION take up standardised, life- and speechless storefront mannequins as protagonists and imbue them with idiosyncratic personalities and a language all their own. Transposed into a novel visual context and given their own stage setting, as it were, they are plunged at the deep end into a realm of captivatingly mysterious beauty and for one timeless moment, vouchsafed a depth beyond all standardisation and conformity.
