  • Work exhibited in the Visual Arts Association Group Exhibition ‘Four Seasons’, held Cairns Regional Gallery, Qld. / The exhibition theme was inspired by the Vivaldi’s music ‘The Four Seasons’. Mixed media – archival black ink, acrylic, collage – paper painted, mono & screen-printed, drawing, photo; screen-printed cotton fabric, carpet material; on canvas. Background: I had been working individually on art compositions relative to my passion to interpret music, rhythm, movement and energy through the use of formal visual art elements ie. line, colour, tone, shape, texture and art media. The interpretation of any music requires one’s senses to hear and feel, absorb sound and energies, to internalize and contemplate, as apposed to recording information seen/perceived through the eyes from the physical ‘outer’ world. One has to create and interpret a visionary abstract, from a pure transitional and spiritual sensual state, from one’s own internal environment, the knowledge, understanding and experience one brings to canvas for the moments of manifestation. I jumped at the chance when this exhibition theme came up. Also I am much inspired by Kandinsky and his work, a long time favourite art philosopher and mentor. ....................................... /

  • This calender consists of a series of ongoing portraits created through the process of stepping out of my own way and allowing collected imagery symbols mixed media and intuition to BECOME! Once upon a time…... I planned my art by doing a sketch or having an idea….at least a place to start. And once upon a time I realized there was more that needed expressing than my underused brain could imagine….and I have a GOOD imagination. This intuitive way of working was a necessary step in my own evolution as artist and being….to relinquish control….to learn to listen to my inner guide or higher self. I came to find during this exercise that ‘what I was asked to put on canvas’ seemed to make no sense at all …...just strange little pieces from nowhere…or so I thought yet as I was living my life I realized that it made no sense either. I concluded that this no sense or nonsense I was creating through my judgment actually reflects the innate sense we come from and all have,,,,THE BIG SENSE….....a sense beyond …....and so I trust this way of working more than I trust my way of working! LOL Enjoy IN JOY in whatever sense you can.

  • Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

  • / “Still Life with Wellingtons” is another of my larger works that I promised to start adding to my RB gallery…just finished today, it has all the components of my favourite style of painting; lots of texture, trompe l’oeil, and a touch of surrealism in the subject matter…the shiny boots contrast nicely with the rough wood and the rusty nail….it will fit in perfectly with the Spring Fever collection, but really belongs with the Portfolio collection…the whole is totally imagined…I created the wood panel as I went along and it was such fun, I had to restrain myself from adding more knots…I found Elizabeth Bishop’s words to be truly an inspiring accompaniment to the painting”... Watercolour on Saunders Waterford Rough paper…Challenge Win in First Things and featured in The Outsiders and other groups… “It was cold and windy, scarcely the day / to take a walk on that long beach / Everything was withdrawn as far as possible, / indrawn: the tide far out, the ocean shrunken, / seabirds in ones or twos. / The rackety, icy, offshore wind / numbed our faces on one side; / disrupted the formation / of a lone flight of Canada geese; / and blew back the low, inaudible rollers / in upright, steely mist.” Elizabeth Bishop, The End of March / The Sap Bucket

  • Late October…it had been a cold summer and we hardly hoped for any fruit, but the old stone wall had been kind as in years past, keeping the warmth of the sun in it’s bones, so that the pears grew fat and juicy, hanging so low, we had to tie them to prevent them from falling…then suddenly it was winter and we ran to gather them in…visons of pear jams, compotes and chutneys urged us to hurry before a frost set in…they felt good in the hand, plump and juicy….stored in the root cellar, they will take us through to spring...excerpt…The Old Pear Tree..Janis Zroback Watercolour on Arches Not Paper / Pears and Lace

  • Wrap them well…wrap them in lace.. / These delicate fruits of mother nature’s bounty… / Coddle them in secret, soft and silky.. / Lest in the darkness they bruise and blacken… / Throughout the chill season, unwrap them gently, / Savor their goodness, slowly, so slowly, / The first bite is best, but the last just as good. / Still in the dark feast on the goodness.. / Oh what pleasures we take for our own! ...Janis Negative Painting in Watercolour on Arches Hot Pressed Paper FEATURED IN IMPRESSIONISM CAFE / Espalier
