  • Portrait of Georgia O’Keeffe. Oil on Canvas / American Artist. Georgia O’Keeffe was raised in Wisconsin, educated in Chicago and Virginia, taught, painted, and lived on the east coast until her early sixties when she moved to Abiquiu, & Santa Fe, New Mexico. Close to one hundred when she died in 1986, living alone and painting in scenery that inspired her famous flowers in closeup with strong sexuality, voluptuous lilies and poppies, stark desert landscapes and animal skeletons. She worked in charcoal, water color, and finally oils, and worked large. I’m not sure her story is known well outside the states. She was photographed, courted, and married (1924) by famed 1920’s photographer Alfred Stieglitz who adored her, left his wife and family for her, and made her more famous than he was. She too, was madly in love with him. His black and white photographs of O’Keeffe filled Stieglitz’s famed “291” gallery in New York and caused a sensation with portraits focused on her beautiful bone structure and striking looks, and spectacular nudity. He took over 300 portraits of her from 1918 to 1937. Stieglitz may have been in love, but smart enough of a businessman to cause O’Keeffe’s work to skyrocket in price, averaging $100,000 a painting, monumental for a living artist and a woman in that time. What he did for her career lasted, interest waned some but revived and her work is priceless now. Every girl painter can use a Stieglitz, few get one. Stieglitz died in 1946 and she moved permanently to New Mexico three years later after cataloguing his work and papers. She was 59, began a new life in a landscape she claimed as her own. “God said I may have that mountain,” she’d written, “if I paint it enough.” So she did. / I painted this from one of Alfred Stieglitz’s famous photographs of Georgia O’Keeffe. / When you do portraits, you start to hear conversations from that time, get a sense of the thinking of the subject, smells and impressions wander through you or assault you inescapably. It’s a fascinating and somewhat dangerous occupation because when you put down the brush and turn away you wonder where the hell you’ve been and question your sanity. I’ve come to accept it as just what happens and there it is. One cannot help but see Stieglitz’s fascination with O’Keeffe’s profound physical symmetry. It bothered me. I thought it annoyed Georgia, too, that he was making more of it than in truth was there. Certainly a thoughtfully bright, introspective & solid woman. But he did not capture the O’Keeffe who stood in the desert in thunderstorms alone in the middle of the night to draw the electricity in the air into her being, which she was notorious for doing. Or the O’Keeffe who lived alone on her Ghost Ranch, and drove in her Model A Ford recklessly to plateaus and mountains of New Mexico to soak in the wilderness. DH Lawrence, Ansel Adams, the Lindberghs were visitors. / It’s not the last portrait I’ll do of her, but I wanted to see more in her than Stieglitz’s precision, no matter how beautiful that is to see. / I think he was incredibly kind and thoughtful about this woman’s life, and helped her reach a financial independence undreamt of for an artist of her time and sex. Stieglitz said of the first drawings of Georgia O’Keeffe that he saw: “Finally, a woman on paper!” He admired her, and he loved her. I can’t blame him for thinking her perfect. I’m just not so sure he saw the savage in Georgia. Other US photographers who did some earlier radical work in b/w, nature, and nudes you might want to visit: Ansel Adams. Brett, Edward, and Cole Weston. Edna St Vincent Millay wrote: “My candle burns at both ends; / It will not last the night; / But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends— / It gives a lovely light!” / Which, published in 1918 became an anthem to end constraints on overwatched Victorian girls. A wild, free life… edged with death. / The Hawks Perch

  • This is four photos that I chose to layer to get a similar effect as “nature under water” and “the nature of things” although I used live nature and threw it on printed images for the others. • I love rain since childhood. Don’t know why. I feel good in rain.

  • Judith suggested Rainy street could be in B&W. She has great B&W work and has been an inspiration to me. So I tried with PS to convert the photo into B&W. But I’m new to PS and don’t know if I did it right. Please let me know what you think about the tones, contrast, textures… will a more grainy feel help? Thank you.

  • Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

  • In the life of every passionate photographer or artist, there is perhaps one day that stands as a defining moment in the course of their journey; when that person knows beyond their capacity to express in words, that they have been gifted with sight and opportunity that others have not. • / “Still Life with Wellingtons” is another of my larger works that I promised to start adding to my RB gallery…just finished today, it has all the components of my favourite style of painting; lots of texture, trompe l’oeil, and a touch of surrealism in the subject matter…the shiny boots contrast nicely with the rough wood and the rusty nail….it will fit in perfectly with the Spring Fever collection, but really belongs with the Portfolio collection…the whole is totally imagined…I created the wood panel as I went along and it was such fun, I had to restrain myself from adding more knots…I found Elizabeth Bishop’s words to be truly an inspiring accompaniment to the painting”... Watercolour on Saunders Waterford Rough paper…Challenge Win in First Things and featured in The Outsiders and other groups… “It was cold and windy, scarcely the day / to take a walk on that long beach / Everything was withdrawn as far as possible, / indrawn: the tide far out, the ocean shrunken, / seabirds in ones or twos. / The rackety, icy, offshore wind / numbed our faces on one side; / disrupted the formation / of a lone flight of Canada geese; / and blew back the low, inaudible rollers / in upright, steely mist.” Elizabeth Bishop, The End of March / The Sap Bucket

  • Hope Is the Thing With Feathers Collaboration between Isa Rodriguez and F.A. Moore, / combines similar images created by the artists separately, and at different dates, with no knowledge of the other. The likeness was so uncanny, they simply needed to be married in one piece. The separate elements are Bird Comfort by Rodriguez and Rain-I by Moore. Poem by Emily Dickenson. This work is my variation of the original. Please see F.A. Moore’s original of this collaborative work “here is my Story with this .. I had not felt it was truly mine until I layered it with another photo of mine, actually it is layered with one of my versions of a fractal I had played with a while back , one I loved especially when my cousin, Iris’, whose husband fell in love with it and sort of helped me name it “Twin Twisters. He had never appreciated art before, but started to a bit, while Iris was learning a few ropes on Rb, and spending time looking at photographs and reading the different writings. that original is here / Here are the details of the two images* / Bird Comfort Rain I* / / The way I see this : at the beginning of life, we are divinely cute, potentially everything, love to be seen and hear, clear as a bell, but sometimes dumber than dirt. albeit . sooooo good looking ..we are innocent, we are absorbing, we also love to be heard, and like to experiment and make some big booboos.. profound color, emotions galore, puberty … hot , cold , where do we go , hurt, pain, its bigger than everything .. , everything is important we think, what we say is important , what we are doing is oh so good isnt it ?? then we enter the error of a bit of doubts, and responsibilities, but we do have a style.. we even twirl our words, to make them sound better, and we can bend the rules, and we are working , and we are lonely sometimes, oh , we are so confused… but sometimes a bit content .. but mostly not, we wear our face well, but we see what is there.. and though we perch quite proudly , we feel something is missing.. .. in the middle of our careers, we are not content , but dont know how to stop the crazy machine we are on when we approach our later years, years which we are sure wont last too long.. we are fading in our bodies, but our mind .aaaaaaaah, clear as a bell sometimes , more than ever.. we are content in not being seen so much , but , some people know we have some wisdom .. we dont care what people think of us so much anymore.. we ar perched up higher, for we live to observe more. and listen more ..and also we are aware of the grass on the other side. we are ready more and more to go to the real green grass, our final home, and we wonder allot about the days gone by , and we do worry about some things. but we let things happen more, and not feel we must interfere, we know better, things tend to work out in their own way .. we ache for a young body at times, we feel we have even lost some body parts along the way .. what happened to all of our hair .. what happened to all of our skin tones ?. oh but now those wrinkles on our hands. how beautiful they can be…. aaaah , if people only knew .. how much heartache would they not have to endure. but our voice is low.. people must seek our advice. we wont do the speeches so much anymore , hence the text must be low tones, barely visible except up close lol. you can clearly see what stage I am in with this explanation dont you ?? :))
