We were in Singapore I think when my mom bought these really pretty glass sweets, they were the size of an actual sweet but in differnt shapes and colors. I was working in the studio at that time and i noticed the shadow was made up of such lovely colors but the trick was to get the angle of the light just right so that the shadow turned out not blurry nor distorted but a true shadow of the sweet. And after many blurry shots I finally nailed it. /

The columns were created using Vue, there isn’t too many of them here in Bendigo to photograph, the rest in Photoshop. I lost count of the layers but there was a lot.

Sunset in Negril, Jamaica. This whole trip for me was about learning how to compose my images. This one in particular I focused on the sun being framed between the palm trees. Taken with the “foliage” setting on my camera with just a little boost with color in digital editing to enhance it.

How many times have we heard our mother tell us Come on, eat it! It’s full of good things! Well, here is proof that moms are always right! Again, this is my starting image. Please refer to Renaissance Still Life for more details on how it was made. I selected only the fruit with the elliptical marquee tool, and discarded the rest. Then I sperized with the distort filter, and scaled everything to fit into the apple. To obtain the final image, I mostly stacked three layers of this image of a red apple ornament over the fruit, blended in screen mode in various opacities. Finally, I adjusted levels for each colour channel separately. Whenever I see sunflowers, their little centers look like happiness to me. They always make me smile. I had several in a small bouquet and moved them this way and that to see what textures and colors would pop. Did you know sunflowers are used to make so many things? They provide humans and animals with food in the form of seeds and oil. The leaves are used as fodder, the flowers yield a yellow dye, and the seeds contain oil and are used for food. The oil is used for cooking, as an ingredient of soaps and paints, and as a lubricant. WOW! What a wonderful little plant. ;o) Still life, Mission Viejo, CA, USA.
