This shot was taken in Copacabana in 2006, a little town in the north of Bolivia, situated on the bank of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 3800 mts. / There was a big celebration in town that day and so much to see and discover. But I was so tired that I decided to sit down and rest for a while when those two men sat just in front of me. I took so many pictures of them but this one is my favorite. Click /

Oil painting on canvas (original sold) I painted this scene of an Irish village several years ago, adapted from an old photograph dating from probably the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The man with the cart is probably a trader, the young woman looks on while the elderly folk take in the sun and watch the activity in the village. Interesting to see the various buildings, from poor thatched cottages to well built stone (shops?) and wealthy mansions. In Ireland today, many of these building would still exist. I live in an old cottage which once had a thatched roof and probably looked pretty much like the one in the painting. The slate roofs can still be seen in some places and the shops and stores still look very much the same… double glazed windows replace the old wooden frames and inside its very modern but walk through any old Irish village or town and you will see that the old buildings are still there. Driving through an old village is a nightmare… the road is narrow and will swerve because, as in this painting, a building could jut out into the road. Slow down world!! Bring back the donkey and cart, I say!!! :-)

Another one. This time it is a turtle. Turtles’ lives are long, and they are always sleepy and tired somehow. Old people seen many things and many of them are bitter about life and the world. It’s a fusion. Enjoy.

/ I wouldn’t like to feed the photographers for which this photo is the plain and simple truth. Another instalment in my Nostalgia series although a little different then usual in the set-up. It’s a lot simpler a composition then most of my work, but let me assure you, it was so much harder to get right! Shot with my relatively new Pentax K10D and a very old Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm objective. You can read all about the technique used in this tutorial more work / the calendar / preview / “Forgotten” was sold as a Medium mounted print to an anonymous buyer. Featured In: / -Nostalgic Art And Photography / -Layered With Texture My father had an uncle whose hobby was photography and when Dad was 14, his uncle began to teach him how to develop photos in the bathroom that served as their makeshift darkroom. By the time I was born, he had really become quite a good photographer and my childhood and teen years are filled with memories of seeing Dad with his camera or the smells of the chemicals in the darkroom he built in our basement. During the 1950’s he used this Rolleiflex. He had other cameras later and copious amounts of equipment but it’s always this camera I think of when I remember my father’s love of photography…..probably because he was busy sticking it in my face from the moment I was born! :-) On the leather case you can see the silver oval. At that point in his life, Dad was a photo engraver so he had the tools to engrave his initials on that oval. The light meter in the foreground is one he used for years. When he wasn’t sticking that in my face or my brother’s it was always fastened to his belt. Oh….the girl in the picture is me. That was when I was three and I was holding the leather camera case and ‘taking pictures’ just like my Dad….who is, of course, the fellow on the left.

A new addtion to the Still Life series, “Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots” pays tribute to the lovely art of stenciling that experienced a resurgence in the 80s then got overexposed and trite…well know in Europe for centuries, in North America itinerant stencillors made a good living going from town to town with their tools…evidence of their beautiful work still remains today and is shown in museums around the world... / I chose to infuse this painting with the flavour of an old garden room, where the plaster has fallen off and the single stencil though greatly worn with age still looks beautiful…the terracotta pots which are so delightful to paint, add to the feeling of age…I have a number of these ancient pots, and though they are still under wraps right now, I know them so well I think I can reproduce them in my sleep... If I could sum this up in one perfect word, it would be Ragadellic. Don’t you think? I guess one of my guilty pleasures are Chuck T’s. You just can’t get a more perfect shoe. This is the Converse Generation as they say. / Everyone takes photos of Allstars, I know, but they are a good subject, so why not? This is my first attempt of a Converse shot, and I think I did pretty well.
