LOL! Just like an incorrigible youngster, Papa was caught licking his fingers after opening and eating a peanut! I mean, REALLY!!! Totally impolite and 100% hysterical. :-D When a squirrel is eating, it looks like they can’t see their mouths well enough to be sure there’s something good in their hands for their mouths to munch. Going by sense of smell alone, they seem to know when they’ve dropped a section of nut (or they count halves while eating and if there aren’t at least four, goodies are on the ground… somewhere. But Papa here was not looking for a missing nut half. And he wasn’t holding a shell with or without a nut in it either. Nope. Mr. Furball here was actually licking his fingers (toes/paws/hands?) and not the slightest bit ashamed to do so in from of a guest! I know this HAS to be tricky since there are at least 5 long claws on each ‘frontal mitt’ and he can’t see any of them either. Getting a snag has GOT to hurt – well it should hurt, right? Hmmm. Maybe squirrel tongues are immune to pain. This could be a marketing opportunity with billions of potential customers! I don’t know what sort of stuff tree squirrels like but I’m sure I could get some sort of acceptably cool bling on their LennyMade tongue piercings! Papa’d probably snatch up a diamond stud since he thinks he’s one too…

It stands on an almost inaccessible ‘island’, split from the mainland by a ten foot wide cleft some thirty feet deep. The place can only be accessed by walking through fields and along the cliffs some mile or more form the nearest road.

I came across Daisy, as I’ve christened her, with her head poked over the wall and she seemed to be having trouble with something. When I got close I realised she had a plastic bag stuck in her mouth and was scraping her head against the wall to try and get rid of it. I leaned in and pulled the bag out of her mouth then she just stood there looking at me and posed nicely for a photograph!
