The 3rd in my Zodiac series. Libra was commissioned by tkrosevear. / There are still a few star signs left for which I maybe commissioned and will transform you into your star sign. For more in this series / ARIES / PISCES / LEO / CANCER / TAURUS Libra September 24 to October 23 Libra is the seventh astrological sign in the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Libra. In western astrology, this sign is no longer aligned with the constellation as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. In astrology, Libra is considered a “masculine”, positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered an air sign and is one of four cardinal signs.[1] Libra is ruled by the planet Venus (which also rules Taurus). It is governed by the 7th House (House of Love & Relationships). Libra natives are peacemakers or at least they try to be, they like beautiful things, are artistic, tactful and do not like arguments that involve them. When it comes to the negative side of this air sign they can be self indulgent, fickle, flirtatious, indecisive because they want everyone to love them so hate taking sides or make decisions others may not like. A Libra makes a good mediator because they love balance in all things. They do not like arguments which involve them, but will watch and enjoy the battles other people may have. The Libra tries for harmony in his personal life. They are willing to compromise and with their great charm they are capable of being total people pleasers. This air sign is also an expert at compromise because they are so charming. Libra wants everyone to like them. They seldom enjoy being alone and feel lost without a partner. In that way a Libra can be very needy. Libra tends to have rejection anxiety when they feel left out or ignored by pals. If you are involved with a Libra it is best to make sure they feel loved and included in all things that a group of friends may be doing. Otherwise you will have a very unhappy Libra on your hands. Always worried about what other people think of them they can be emotionally tense. Hates making decisions. Ask opinions of those they respect. They are a mass of indecision and extremely perfection conscious. They deal with tension by getting sick.

These make excellent birthday cards ! I am designing 12 images based around the months of the year and the old Celtic luna months. They will reflect the changing of the seasons and the ever turning wheel of the year, the magic and mystery attatched to each part of the cycle and any special festivals falling in those months. In honor of the sextiling of Jupiter and Mars at 4:29pm EST/US on 10/27/08, I thought it would be interesting to play with the symbology of this particular event… / Remember the song, Age of Aquarius, the group who sang it was the 5th Dimension and was made popular by the Broadway musical “HAIR”... When the Moon is in the Seventh House(Libra/Venus – according to current calendar ended 9/23), however, also note that we humans have been altering time with such things as Daylight Savings, etc…Four days (?) And Jupiter aligns with Mars – the aspect of sextile, links planets in compatible elements, encouraging an active exchange, eager to work together – an exciting conversation…Jupiter is representative of the Producing/Expansion department, that is positive, optimistic and generous – usually associated astrologically by imposing god-like bearded men like Zues or Marduk, with the seat of anger and primitive emotion driving the forces. Also associated with Jupiter are the Eagle, sceptre, thunderbolts, power, equilibrium, justice, optimism, organizing, ability, the color Blue, the East direction, Thursday and the metal, Tin. While Mars, on the other hand, is the security department head, responding with action and self-defense, making one brave, courageous, daring and even fearless. Astrologically, it’s the symbol of the aggressive man, like the Roman God Mars, the Greek Ares, or Mesopotamian Nergal, helmeted with a shield and sword or spear, perhaps mounted, sometimes with a wolf. Also associated with Mars are energy, violence, courage, ardour, tension, fire, iron, the color red, South direction and Tuesday. Then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars… / This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius… / Harmony and Understanding / Sympathy and trust abounding / No more falsehoods or derisions / Golden living dreams of visions / Mystic crystal revelation and the mind’s true liberation – Aquarius… OK, so I’m a hopeful romantic…I can DREAM!!! The territory of the air signs is the mind. Our mind consists of (1) our dual mind and (2) our neutral mind. Our dual mind consists of (1) our negative/protective mind and (2) our positive/expansive mind. The former warns us of negative outcomes and potential dangers. The later informs us of positive outcomes and rewarding potentialities. (see NMB #124 for more discussion of Libra and the 3 minds.) Our dualistic mind alternates between negative and positive. This function is needed to analyze, to discriminate and to evaluate information and alternatives. Without an arbitrator, however, our dualistic mind becomes confused and conflictual. When we get to the Libra stage of our evolution, we move above the horizon on our birth chart, where we enter the big wide world beyond our own personal reality. The Libra arena thrusts us into relationships. Interpersonal relationships are a central feature of our worldly endeavors. At our Libra stage of development, we realize how dysfunctional and conflicted our mind has become. We become aware of how our mental imbalances effect our relationships and our worldly success. We begin to realize how our mind is sabotaging us and out of control. We quest for an escape route out of our mental morass. THE DANCE OF POLARITIES AND THE SEARCH FOR STABILITY AND INNER PEACE The dance of the polarities and the variety of information that passes through our dualistic mind entertains Gemini (the first air sign). Libra (the second air sign) is very different. Libra desires stability and equanimity, not entertainment. The constant swing of the polarities bothers Libra, who desires to keep everything in balance. Libra likes harmony and peace. Libra tries to avoid conflict because it makes it feel uncomfortable. Everyone’s inner Libra searches for an alternative – (1) where we can escape mood swings and the battle ground of our rational mind, (2) where we can find an arbitrator and make wise choices, (3) where resolution is possible, and (4) where an experience of inner peace is available. VENUS AND LIBRA’S NATURE AND QUALITIES Libra is ruled by Venus. Venus is a benefic planet. Neither Venus nor Libra like to be confrontational or to be confronted. Libra’s polarity Mars/Aries gets charged up in confrontational encounters. Venus and Libra get deflated, confused and upset by any kind of conflict. The points below help us understand the nature and some of the qualities of Venus and Libra. (1) Like Venus, Libra likes to rest, to take things easy and doesn’t like hassle. (2) Libra is a thinking, reflecting being, who enjoys beauty, and developing ideas. (3) Libra likes creative and artistic pursuits, not hard or repetitive work. (4) Libra is idealistic and is prone to unrealistic expectations. (5) Libra likes perfection and doesn’t like flaws. (6) Libra is very sensitive and feels hurt by criticism or disapproval. (7) Libra tends to takes things too personally. Libra is interested in sharing, relating, cooperating, being fair, making life easier for itself and for others, and enjoys & fosters harmonious interactions. Libra’s energy is quiet, unobtrusive, calm, and content. Libra may appear this way on the outside, but inside Libra’s mind and emotions are not at peace. Libra, like all of us, must EARN this serene state of being. LIBRA ISSUES, CONFLICTS AND THEMES Next, we examine the nature of Libra’s existential dilemma and pain. (1) Although Libra wants and tries to please, it is usually trapped in some kind of interpersonal quandary. This is because it can’t be all things to all people and offensive to none. Our inner Libra needs to learn that we can’t please everyone all the time; and we don’t have to. Our inner Libra also needs to get in touch with, honor and learn how to meet our own needs. We need to exercise empathy toward ourselves before we can authentically express empathy for others. (2) Libra fears disharmony and wants everything to be perfect. Libra hopes to avoid the negative consequences of choices, so it remains indecisive and avoids making decisions or taking action. In an attempt to avoid feeling more uncomfortable, closing off options or alienating anyone, Libra circumvents taking responsibility. However, the reality of Earth school is that life is an experiment; and we learn through experience. We have to make choices, set our best intentions and hope for the best. We have to learn how (1) to make decisions, take action and to be responsible for the above, (2) to be at peace with our choices, and (3) to be detached from others’ choices, opinions and actions. Finished…Phew! This is the last of the Zodiac series. The Walls are from my own stock. All the animals and Libra herself, were cut out and saved, and then added to the background. Multiple copies of each one were layered and blended in using a whole host of blending modes. Libra is the only inanimate sign of the zodiac, all the others representing either humans or animals. Many modern astrologers regard it as the most desirable of zodiacal types because it represents the zenith of the year, the high point of the seasons, when the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is reaped. There is a mellowness and sense of relaxation in the air as mankind enjoys the last of the summer sun and the fruits of his toil. Librans too are among the most civilized of the twelve zodiacal characters and are often good looking.
