AGAINST THIS WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION BY PHILLIPE DOAN, ANTI-FUR, ANIMAL LIBERATION/RIGHTS
Another in my Emotions series. I know, I know, it’s not technically an emotion, but it does evoke a few.
ANIMAL LIBERATION FRONT [A.L.F.] BY PHILLIPE DOAN /
LIBERATION LIBERATION! Digitization [2008] !
ANIMAL LIBERATION: AGAINST THIS WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION [2008]. DIGITIZATION OF AN IMAGE OF A WHITE MINK BEING ONE OF THE MANY MANY VICTIMS TO ONE OF THE PRIMARY AND HORRIFIC WEAPONS OF FURRIERS: THE CLAW-TRAP. THIS LEGAL WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION IS UNNECESSARY IN ALL CONTEXTS: UNETHICAL, ENVIRONMENTALLY DESTRUCTIVE AND GENOCIDAL IN ITS NATURE. FUR IS DEAD AND SO ARE FURRIERS. AT LEAST I THINK THEY OUGHT TO BE. ANIMAL LIBERATION IS HUMAN LIBERATION.

Liberating the Angel / Digital Hybrid / This work was originally a mixed media paint and charcoal inspiration on paper. The image has been loaded into Photoshop and digitally enhanced and manipulated using the painting and blending tools and image adjustments. Work from my “Liberating the Angel” exhibition. / The woman develops wings and can fly. She leaves behind the suffocating constraints that have bound her and moves forward to the freedom of self discovery.
One of the first Howard comics I ever did, this one appeared as a centrefold in the first issue of a comic/zine which I co-created called Bogreading. The comic was deliberately low quality, even photocopied rather than printed, but despite the poor quality we managed to sell almost every copy most likely due to its satirical humour, sarcasm and perhaps a little extreme vulgarity…there IS a market for that kind of stuff…but we still didnt make any profit…not that profit should ever be a concern for any artist wanting to lead a relatively stress free existence. Bogreading was a massive project, most zines on the scene at the time were only half the size of our eighty paged epic, and the whole thing took a whole year (I was living in an isolated shithole and needed something to do to make it go away) to complete. Once printed, it was yet another struggle just to find places willing to sell it, we had the comic handed back to us in a brown paper bag with grim faces a number of times… / felt tip pen on A4 paper / 1998

I admit, I feel a little proud every time I see someone on Facebook join a group dedicated to a social/political issue. It’s nice to know that some people care about the world we live in. But there are still a lot of apathetic people out there.
